Man i have been trying emitter shapes for a week now. Ima try this one. Its really hard to get good shapes in explosion and mantaflow performance is giving hard time. Thanks for great info.
@IagoMotaVFX4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, getting good-looking and realistically moving smoke shapes in blender is very difficult. There's really no simple solution to this since blender's smoke simulator is critically flawed to begin with. More often then not, I find myself trying to push certain shapes to look realistic with the use of force fields.
@CrossMindStudio4 жыл бұрын
@@IagoMotaVFX I was looking forward to Mantaflow. I did find some improvements like you can use forcefields and stuff but overall its still the same. But i want to give it a few more tries and see if i can make a library of emitters to use for future purpose. I just need few for times where needs are absolute basic..

Another super video. I’m currently following some of your older renders. Man, a 13 hour bake and the render has been running for 3 days now and probably will take until the end of the week. It doesn’t fit on to my GPU (NVidea 1070) so it’s all CPU rendering. I think I need to upgrade my CPU 😅 Also, have you had any problems with 2.8 reading baked files?
@IagoMotaVFX5 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Wow, I wonder what you're making there; a 13 hour bake is quite a lot. In my experience, 2.8 has read baked files the same way as 2.79. I've never really run into any significant problems with that, other than the fact that blender can't continue a simulation from where it left-off.
@ciaranpmryan5 жыл бұрын
Iago Mota I was actually following your first tutorial with the mix smoke. I think the big difference is that I added more verts/faces to the emitter. That was also probably my biggest mistake. I will try it again copying your methods exactly when it’s done rendering as I’ve also read that you use a 660ti or something similar so I guess it must’ve been something that i changed that makes it not fit on to my 1070. I also changed to ‘Progressive Rendering’ and it’s knocked about 30 minutes off each frame. I guess it’s just all about experimentation.
@ciaranpmryan5 жыл бұрын
I guess it was the fact that I added more verts to the emitter. Redid the whole thing again today and it’s working lovely. One point I noticed was that OpenVBD doesn’t seem to copy across the colour info for the node editor. I can now also render it on my graphics card. 😊 I’ll hit render soon and upload it to my other channel when it’s done.
@IagoMotaVFX5 жыл бұрын
@@ciaranpmryan That's great! I actually didn't know that the emitter's vert count influences the simulation speed by much. I guess that's some useful information for future projects!
@ciaranpmryan5 жыл бұрын
Iago Mota well, I can’t be sure that’s what it was, but that’s the only thing that I changed, so more testing of that theory will be needed.

Does subframe sampling work now? Your particle emitters would prove it to be true or did you import them from 2.79?
@IagoMotaVFX5 жыл бұрын
It works for key frame animated objects. Unfortunately, it still doesn't work with the Particle Instance modifier. Trying to emit particles from already existing particles will cause some clumping.
@ale-pg3xb3 жыл бұрын
@@IagoMotaVFX how do you emit particles from already existing particles?
@IagoMotaVFX3 жыл бұрын
@@ale-pg3xb You can do that through the use of the Particle Instance modifier. Using it will duplicate that object onto the particles of an emitter. After that, you just add a new particle system to it, and make sure to enable "Use Modifier Stack" in the particle settings, so that it'll actually calculate it every instance.

Yet again, fantastic video! Do you possibly think you could make a tutorial on how to create realistic cumulonimbus clouds? I’ve been trying to figure out how to for months and I can’t get it to look good! And you, if anyone, would be able to make realistic cumulonimbus clouds.

Iago Mota most of them are cumulus and, not all that realistic. I’ve tried figuring out the methods to create cumulus and cumulonimbus clouds, and I’ve gotten close, but nothing photorealistic. I was just looking at the video “how to make smoke sims more detailed” and near the end there are some amazingly good clouds.

Hey is there a reason you use the Point Cache over OpenVDB for caching your bakes?
@IagoMotaVFX5 жыл бұрын
On my computer, OpenVDB tends to be glitchy, especially when using different smoke colors. So, usually when I'm making a less heavy simulation, I don't use it.

how did you animate the single verts? they appear as one mesh ("vert emitter") so i don't understand how you managed to get them to move in different directions individually
@IagoMotaVFX4 жыл бұрын
They're all just one object that doesn't have any edges or faces. I gave that object a scaling animation, so all the vertices expand from the origin point.
