Good video! Much more custom than going out and getting a 1975 Chevy Vega charcoal canister. Also glad to hear you're keeping the wife happy!

Thanks! Gotta have my priorities straight haha. Yes definitely more custom than grabbing one from another car.

Nice project! In a few years you want to reactivate that charcoal you need only empty the canister dump it on a flat surface and hit it with a torch. All the absorbed gases burn off and your charcoal is good as new.

Hi. I’ve been seeing on different vapor canister sellers sites that you’re supposed to mount it high. Above the fuel filler at minimum. Just fyi. I’m still learning about these things
@SmackeysGarage7 ай бұрын
That’s a good tip. Makes sense that you’d want it high to not have any fuel leaks
@eddieamparan2123 ай бұрын
Awesome video quick question you didn't run any hoes to your manifold for the vapors to be released back to the engine or the vapors are just released in the atmosphere. So basically you just ran a hose from the gas tank into the canister?
@SmackeysGarage3 ай бұрын
Thank you! Yes. My setup is as simple as that. The downside is you will need to replace the carbon at some point when the smell comes back. Since it’s not going back to the manifold and has no purging system they have to be refreshed.

Have you been driving with your charcoal canister set up yet? Any issues? Is the lower vent hose adequate to purge fumes or getting any vapor lock with it? Thinking of doing the same on a car I have. Also what size mesh of charcoal did you use? Not a GTM, though. Thanks.
@SmackeysGarage Жыл бұрын
I haven't been driving with the charcoal canister yet since the car isn't registered. I've had the car running, revving, and cruising around the driveway, which really isn't that much. I have seen a few cars successfully running a system like this. I don't believe the restriction would come from the charcoal (as you said) and the mesh at the bottom. For the mesh I used "fine" from home depot. The charcoal is linked in the description of the video. I did not use a thick layer in the bottom of the canister. Just enough to block the charcoal from exiting (and a safety factor).

Question? How and When do you know it's time to change the carbon? Can it overfill with vapors?
@SmackeysGarage5 ай бұрын
Not 100% sure there is a sure fire way to tell when the charcoal is saturated. On my project car I've been just changing it yearly. Hasn't been an issue so far. Most cars have purge built in as part of the emission system.
@melvincoleman80085 ай бұрын
@@SmackeysGarage Ok, I'm putting mine on a kitcar. I'm planning on having a non-purge setup. I will just follow your lead and change it once a year. Thanks !!!
