God Bless you sir for passing this on. A number of us have wondered how the heck to make this happen and your efforts of hit and miss are very helpfull.

How was the work piece chucked? I understand the tail stock end. Did you place a hole on the on the work piece to chuck it?
@DaveGatton6 ай бұрын
No. Since I start out with square stock and use the rounding toolpath gadget to make a cylinder, I glue a piece of round scrap that I've cut with my CNC to the end of the square stock.

Hi Dave do you need Vcarve Pro woud it work and be the same with Vcarve Desktop
@DaveGatton7 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching. It's my understanding the Vcarve Desktop does not have "Gadgets" included like Vcarve Pro does. You need the "wrapping toolpath" gadget to create the rotary toolpath.

Hey Dave, I noticed you have an Albert Einstein bust project. Could you please do a video on the software creation of that.

Thanks for watching Michael. Let me revisit that project and I'll put a video for that in the que.

Great video Dave. Rotary scares a lot of people, but in the end, it is not much different that tradition cnc work. A really smart guy once told me "It aint rocket science".

Thanks for watching Rob. I appreciate you watching my videos. I think I may of heard of that guy that told you that. I'm not so sure he is really smart though.

excellent work i designed a rotary but i think i might just purchase this one you got here. is your board setup for rotary or did you just replace your y or x axis whichever your forward back is with the rotary? mine is y

Hi, very good video! I have a doubt, which post processor do you select when generating the file?
@randysonnicksen947512 күн бұрын
I couldn't see what file type you were importing from Thingiverse. Was that an STL file?
@DaveGatton12 күн бұрын
Yes. It was a STL file. That file could be 3D printed as well.

@@DaveGatton Do you ever run into models that might require the Y axis to move to get "behind" other portions of the model? It seems like all of the rotary axis videos I've seen have the Y axis fixed directly over the centerline of the rotary axis. I don't have a CNC yet, but zeroing in on the Altmill. The Altmill doesn't have a separate stepper driver for a rotary axis, but instead, has a switch box that connects it to the Y axis drivers, thereby disabling the Y axis while the rotary is in use. Is this a pretty common implementation of a rotary axis (shares drivers with Y axis?) Can V-Carve even generate a toolpath for this type of configuration (moving Y axis during rotary operations)?
@DaveGatton12 күн бұрын
@@randysonnicksen9475 With V-Carve Pro you can "wrap" the X axis or the Y axis, meaning depending on which way you have your rotary axis aligned on your machine that axis is wrapped. For example, in the video here I have the rotary axis aligned with the X axis, so the values of the Y axis are replaced by the A axis. So you are really only using three axis at a time, the X axis, the Z axis, and the A axis (rotation). If your rotary axis is aligned parallel with the Y axis then you're using the Y axis, the Z axis, and the A axis (rotation). There is more expensive software that will you to do true 4 or 5 axis programming but V-carve Pro is not one of them.
