This video tutorial shows me making a ring with a flower motif, featuring a bullet shaped Citrine cabochon. The materials I used were: 18 gauge sterling silver sheet, 18 gauge sterling round wire, 16 gauge sterling round wire, number 4 low-dome half round from Rio Grande, and 1/4 inch, 28 gauge fine silver bezel. As always I am using exclusively hard silver solder, and I use My-T-Flux from Rio Grande. I would rate this one as an intermediate project. This video is a bit longer, but is a detailed tutorial, so I think it is worth the watch time. I enjoy sharing my knowledge with others, as I've taught people for most of my life. This hobby turned into a fun side gig for me for years while I taught public school. I love suggestions and hearing about others' experiences. What is your favorite project? What kind of tutorials would you find useful?

Thank you Chad for the time you are investing in making these videos. First off, I am an established silversmith, and we don’t do anything the same. Which is why I LOVE your videos. I think it is very important to see how other metal-smiths work, because we can learn so much from each other. I also think it is very important and beneficial that you leave in the trouble shooting process along the way. Anyone who creates knows that things don’t always go as planned. Kudos for doing a great job on your beautiful jewelry, and for helping teach others along the way.

Me, again...Chad, one of the most valuable aspects of your videos and channel is how you include your figuring out process. It is such an important part of learning metasmithing; taking learned techniques, and being able to apply them to new and unique design ideas. Well done! 👏👏👏🌺🌺

Thanks! Figuring out how something is achieved is one of the aspects of this I enjoy most. Teaching critical thinking and problem solving was a large part of what I did prior to retiring from public schools. I hope one of the main ideas I'm demonstrating here is that messing up is part of problem solving, and you don't learn much without the occasional project catastrophe:). I've learned quite a bit over the last year, some from good advice from viewers like you, some from exploring techniques I've never done before, and quite a few from experiments gone wrong, lol. As always Flying Chef, thanks for the thoughtful comment!

Another beauty, love this style. I had to chuckle at the beginning of the video when you said that you had never done this style before and I wondered if you have to start over if it doesn’t work and figured you would just make a new video. It was great to see that even the master has issues it gives hope to the rest of us. Thanks so much.

Thanks for thinking I’m a master at this, hehe. It’s a little discouraging when something like that happens, but that’s almost always when I learn something and get better. I appreciate your nice comments Pat!

If the tool works, it's the right tool! Sheet is just wire on a grand scale anyway. This is a great ring that can be modified in various ways to make it your own. I have always loved coneflowers, they are native in my neck of the woods. The droopy petals are so cool, this is a flower that says do not expend more energy than necessary. Ahem. Congratulations on the growth of your channel, it's well deserved.

Chad, I love this ring. I'm totally going to abscond with this idea. I'll make it completely differently (no copying allowed for me), but you inspired me with this one. 🌺 Foolproof, no-glue setting technique for bullet shape stones is using heavier gauge bezel - even sterling, for strength, and hammer/punch setting to compress the metal molecules well. Much more secure than push and burnish compression setting. It's a bit more work, but it's worth it on a gorgeous ring like this! 👏👏👏👏👏🌺🌺🌺 Hilarious personal honesty on unconventional tool use! 😂 Any possible way to avoid sawing!!

Thanks Flying Chef. Which punch do you use for hammer setting like this? I've never done that type of setting before. How heavy of gauge do you use? Thanks for your advice:)

@Chad’s Silversmithing I'm actually making two punches for you. I just got a set of the tool blanks that I use to make my frankentools (custom setting punches) from! I'll be able to make them next week. 🌺 I still haven't found that dang mitre vise.....

@Chad’s Silversmithing when I screw up and especially when one of my students comes to me with a sad puppy dog face and says, "I screwed it up...", I gleefully rub my hands together and say, "That's fantastic! Good job! " That is when I learn much more. You are spot on about that! 🌺

Thanks, Chad! Can’t wait to make one of these. Beautiful design. I’m a big fan of Frank Lloyd Wright. My husband and I walked into an aging building that was definitely decorated in an art deco style. We were going to see a play in Dallas. I started looking more closely and lo and behold it had been designed by Frank Lloyd Wright!
