Copper, like Silver is depressed in value since they aren't rare, but vital for industry, so as a commodity it is depressed. But always valuable.

Was just talking to my brother in law about porosity in casting yesterday, I used to use various indirect paths for the metal to flow trying to get all that bubbly crap to happen elsewhere sometimes a small spru from the end of the pattern back up to the entrance end of your molde can help vent off gases .? God bless you and your family aloha

There. was a reason people used brass door knobs and stored/drank liquids out of silver. If you put milk in a silver cup and a regular cup and leave them out for a week the milk in the silver will still be good, while the milk in the regular cup will start to spoil after a few hours.

Good to see you at this stuff.. Its ceramic shell that has to be rapidly heated to avoid cracking. Solid investment resists cracking if it's done right. I have to ask.. What did you use for investment material? Oh and make yourself some decent crucible tools before you get hurt. I'd like to see you cast metal for a long time. Great first attempt. You are going to love pouring bronze. Straight copper is a pain in the ass.
@lundgrenbronzestudios4 жыл бұрын
I used ultra vest jewelers investment from ransom and Randolph. It didn’t come with instructions so I looked them up online and miss read them. So next time I think it will go better and I need to get a proper flask. I did make a pouring shank for my bigger crucible but that will be my bronze crucible and my shank only fits that one. I haven’t used it yet. I spilled a crucible of brass with the shanks you see in this video already so I know you are right. I need an upgrade even for the small one.
@jagboy694 жыл бұрын
@@lundgrenbronzestudios I'm glad to hear that wasn't plaster of paris. I get sick of telling people that stuff makes a terrible investment. You probably already have this, but if not. products.riogrande.com/content/Instruction-Sheets/Ultra-Vest-Jewelry-Investment-IS.pdf Pay close attention to the burnout schedule. You dewax these low and slow. For a flask, you can just use a piece of steel pipe. Rio has everything you will need if ya don't mind spending the bucks. If I were you, I would grab a coupon and get a cheap vacuum pump at the hazard fart. You need to vacuum your investment after mixing and then again after you pour into your flask. When it comes time to pour metal, you have your investment UP to temp, PULL A VACUUM on it WHILE you pour in the metal... This is the way solid investment works. You don't have to spend 400bucks on a vacuum table. Watch david at thehomefoundry channel. He does this stuff in his driveway using steel pipe, a fitting and a vacuum pump. Remember, hardened, fired investment is actually gas permeable! When you suck on the end of flask, you are pulling air through the investment and it literally sucks the metal where it needs to go.
@lundgrenbronzestudios4 жыл бұрын
worldtraveler I did find those directions but I actually misunderstood the part that said 1g=1ml. I thought that was the ratio of powder to water. As I was pouring water off the top of the hardened investment I knew something was wrong. Now I see it’s the 39 to 100 ratio. I’d love to have a vacuum chamber. I’d really like to make a professional quality piece someday. I’m tooling up slowly though.
You might try chopped fibers mixed into your investment to reduce or prevent cracking.
@bryanst.martin71344 жыл бұрын
Don't get me wrong, but, it may be tough to break afterwards. Use sparingly at first, glass then carbon fiber. See what the results are.

you're going to have to hold on to that copper soap for a few hours. Copper kills bacteria and viruses but it doesn't kill all of them immediately. It's a better idea to make door handles and keychain door opener hooks made with copper than it is to have a copper bar of soap. This was entertaining however~

Do you have more info on how copper is as effective as hand sanitizer?
@lundgrenbronzestudios4 жыл бұрын
Not scientific data. Copper tends to kill a lot of bacteria but it’s not an instant kill like an alcohol based hand sanitizer. I’ve never seen these types of bars actually tested to see how effective they are.
