Making a Custom Leather Pickguard for my Stratocaster [DIY]

In this video I am carving a Sheridan Style layout on a veg tan leather pickguard. I hope I managed to give you an idea of the process in just a 10 minutes video against several hours of work and recording.

Since I was dreaming about becoming a leather crafter, I've always wanted to make a custom pickguard for my first electric guitar, my beloved Strat. There it is, finally done, despite de Quervain's tenosynovitis that afflicted both my wrists from last summer.

Hi Steve, I used my old pickguard to trace the pattern. Don't know if you meant that or the layout. The floral design has been taken from a book called Sheridan Style Carving.

Grazie mille! In questo caso ho utilizzato un cuoio di 2mm incollato su una plastica semi-rigida di 1mm di spessore!

Did you bake it afterword for rigidity or glue it onto a rigid backer? Great work! I’m inspired to do something like this on my custom guitars a la Hutchinson Guitars et al.

No cooking involved, I glued a rigid layer!
