I did a leather pickguard on a tele I re-finished about 2 summers ago - best thing I have ever made. Kudos on this choice to you!

Sweet. A guy on one of the facebook groups just revealed a tele with leather pick-guard and the shotgun shell knobs.

Very nice! Have seen a couple other tele builds with leater pickguards and they are cool. With the stain you did this will totally rock.

Thanks, Dave. That is what I am hoping for and working toward.

Sorry about the massive hiss at about the 15 minute mark. My microphone fell off because of sweat and I didn't notice, so I had to boost the volume so you could hear what I'm saying.

This is fantastic! What a great idea and makes the guitar more organic looking.

That guitar seems like it will be a very rustic style guitar. Can't wait to see it done!

You are correct. I am going for a distressed old western type feel to the finished product.

Love that look, I may try that on my strat copy after I replace the neck, nice job
@GuitarGoomba6 жыл бұрын
Thank you. You can get all kinds of different leather for fairly cheap. For a Strat, I would check out some embossed leather for texture.

I hadn't either, but others have done it before I did it.

Thank you. Since I've shown mine, a number of builders have done them or told me that they did it on one of their earlier builds.

Any issues with the leather delaminating from the plastic ?

Not my first choice for a pick guard, but definitely unique!

I figured it would add to the theme of the guitar.

That is going to look awesome on the guitar.

Hello, has this ever been used on a classical acoustic guitar ( or nylon or metal strings)? How is it attached? Does the top of the guitar have to be drilled into? or is it stuck on with something like contact cement?. Does it muffle the sound from an acoustic guitar? Can the pick guard be used percussion wise to drum on or does the leather dampen any drum beat? When playing does the thickness matter in terms of it being too high and close to the strings? Curious because trying to figure out how to use this for sound and handling of the guitar purposes?

Are you going to add any decals or something like that?
@GuitarGoomba6 жыл бұрын
If you mean am I going to put decals on the pick-guard, no. The only decals I will put on the guitar are the number and my logo on the headstock. I am experimenting with stamping on a scrap piece of the same leather to see if I can add some embellishment.

Never seen a leather pickguard before. I'd worry about scratching it... but then you could probably just use some kiwi shoe polish?
@GuitarGoomba6 жыл бұрын
I rubbed in some leather protector and it darkened up the color. Any scratches can be taken care of by reapplying the protector, or you could embrace the "aged appearance"
