@Patrick Adair Designs Thank you so much for the attention to detail on my ring and willing to work with some newer materials on my ring . the helpfulness in narrowing down my materials and what will work was very easy. the staff was communicative and easy going and highly recommend using them as i was thrilled to see my vision on this ring come to life.

@aaronamyx-lester69803 жыл бұрын
I can send a pic of it with the uv light. The alexandrite glows bright red and the purple heart wood turns to a light tan. Something I didn't expect with the wood. I did want a different wood than the whiskey barrel wood that everyone offers. I am a wood worker and wanted something unique and beautiful and sent him a peice from my local hardwood supplier. he did a great job bringing out the finish of the wood.

Excellent ring and great workmanship. I assumed the Alexandrite would be a center piece stone until you crushed it. :-) My birthday's in June, so Alexandrite is my birth stone, and I know gem quality Alexandrite isn't inexpensive.

I've tried a similar ring where I had wood inlaid in a damascus steel band, and when I etched it, I think I missed a portion of the inlay with CA glue, and the wood absorbed the acid and wouldn't let the CA cure. Is UV resin a better option when combining wood and either damascus or Meteorite that you plan to etch at the end? Thanks in advance!!

I love purple heart, but it does tend to lose it color rather quickly. I'm curious how well your resin helps with that.
@XxNovaz3 жыл бұрын
I doubt it helps much, especially because UV light accelerates the color loss. You really need a UV resistant finish similar to make the color last.
@aaronamyx-lester69803 жыл бұрын
i had given patrick some info on the purpleheart wood i sent in. it can lose color after 7-10 years but being on the inside on my finger i wasnt as worried about the sun fading it. we had talked about different coatings that would help prevent the color loss. in the end, any special colored wood will fade naturally.

Cool idea, but I think there was too many materials used. Came out looking cluttered, over crowded, and too dark. A lot of the materials in the end become hidden and overshadowed by the excessive glow powders.
@aaronamyx-lester69803 жыл бұрын
I wont take offense to the comment but this was my ring. (I'm Aaron) I didn't want a super clean look. clean can look good but I liked the darkness and the weathered look like it has been through space getting beaten up and has a story to tell. its just like any relationship where there are stories to tell from the highs to the lows. in the end I didn't want flashy and only see the details when you see it up close. I do appreciate the level of detail and the friendliness of Patrick and his team to get the look. They do a fantastic job in communicating and working with you and even doing materials they never tired (purpleheart and alexandrite)
@NatsuDragneel0213 жыл бұрын
@@aaronamyx-lester6980 thank you for the explanation. If you are happy with the ring, that is all that matters. Personally I would prefer something less cluttered, but your explanation makes perfect sense, for what you were going for. I hope you enjoy the ring. Also I agree that their attention to detail is top notch. They always try to give the client exactly what they want. If they hit your expectations perfectly, then I obviously can't fault them, because after all, it's exactly what you wanted.

I have worked with wood for many years. I love purpleheart wood. It's so beautiful. BUT..... you need to know that it will turn brown with time and exposure to air and light. Nothing you can do about that. You can re-sand the surface to expose the purple again, but at some point, you can't continue doing that. Just so you know..... Oh, and sealing it won't help, light penetrates and the reaction still happens, turning the wood brown.
