Exactly that. Deadblow mallets are pretty common - same idea. Energy all goes into the struck object, rather than bouncing the tool back.

love the grain in that wood mate tip top. Hope you dont mind me saying mate, but try lowering your tool rest a bit, the tool will cut better when the cutting edge is at the mid point of your work piece. cheers for the video as always but cracking job

What a beautiful piece of wood. Can you tell us what it is? The addition of the carbon fibre(?) end cap and pins is a really nice touch. A vigil has never been brutalised with so fine an instrument before!
