I think the one of the things I like most is how safe you are with everything. I also like that although you wear gloves it's the latexy rubber ones that protect your hands from scrapes and blisters but will break away and not destroy your hands if caught by spinning parts. wish I had thought of that back when I worked with power tools.

I worked with a guy many years ago who was wearing the big cuff leather gloves while operating a drill press. This dumbass decided to rake the shaving strands from the drill bit using his thumb. Needless to say, the shavings hooked right into that leather and pulled his hand into the drill bit. It ended up PULLING his fucking thumb off at the base joint! The shavings nor the drill cut his thumb off, it PULLED his thumb off! I grabbed him and told him to get in the truck that I'd run him to the ER just a few blocks down the street. He got in, and just as I started to back up, my dad threw me his glove. I asked my dad what in the hell did I need his dam glove for? He replied, "Because his thumb is still in it!" I said, "Yeah, I guess we'll be needing that then won't we?" Lol. The local hospital couldn't do anything with him, so they transferred him by ambulance about an hour south to Birmingham Hospital. The doctors there spent about 6 or 7 hours trying to get blood flow after they reattached it but had no luck. He ended up losing it. The bad thing was, is that we had always kept a piece of steel flat bar to rake the shavings off. The piece was pretty long so you could avoid having your fingers sliced open by the shavings. It was still lying on the drill press table. For whatever reason he decided not to use it that day and ended up with a permanent reminder of what happens when you are a dumbass. My dad told my brothers and I at an early age that if you are going to be dumb, then you better be tough and rich, because being dumb hurts, and it's expensive! Some of the best advice I've ever received! Lol
@GameTimeWhy2 жыл бұрын
@@chadh3441 haha oh man that's a terrible one. I was always terrified of degloving, kickback and all those other terrible things. Luckily I had a combination of good safety from my dad but also I got to go to different first aid and safety training classes so I never really had any close misses but the thought of losing not only a finger but my skin suit.
@chadh34412 жыл бұрын
@@GameTimeWhy I remember when I was in shop class in high school, I was operating a table saw. I wasn't a big fan of them due to kickbacks, even though it did have a kickback guard. As with anything mechanical, even guards fail once in a while. I was feeding a 2x4x8 on the table saw, when it suddenly kicked back and the guard didn't catch it. It hit the concrete block wall hard enough to knock a baseball size chunk out of it! Yeah, my safety awareness increased a lot after that! Lol. I always try to be as safe as I can because I like my fingers just where they are. I've gotten quite attached to them. Lol

Just as a quick tip that might help, when forging a taper it goes faster if you forge it down as a square taper, only working two sides until you get close to your final dimension, then knock the corners down into an octagon, then go around smithing out the high spots. Great video and awesome final product!

This is very nice. I like that the cord wrapping on the handle is both glued and tacked. I always feel that cord wraps won't stay in place. Although it wouldn't look as cool, I'd want a more smoothed transition from handle to head to lower the stress concentration there. Granted, no one in real life who has fought with these kinds of weapons has lived long enough for the stress concentration to matter. I've always been curious had badly these might stick into a leather jerkin with a wool gambeson underneath. I've always felt that a weakness of the "Lucille" weapon of barbed wire wrapped around a baseball bat is that someone in a thick coat with a tough outer layer could block a strike enough to reduce the impact and then catch the barbed wire part in the thickness of a strong leather jacket by pinching the bat between torso and arm. The impact would still hurt, and the barbs would penetrate enough to cause cuts. However, the "Lucille" would then be stuck and difficult to withdraw. If the defender then had a good weapon on hand, he could strike the person armed with the "Lucille" without having to worry about a return strike. The "Lucille" is obviously not going to penetrate as well as these spikes would, and pinching these spikes against one's body would produce much worse injuries. If I were using a bat, I think I'd rather have it without the barbed wire wrapping. I appreciate the harm that the barbed wire can do, but I'd rather not risk the bat becoming stuck on things. For a spiked club, I wonder whether anyone has ever made the "spikes" as small blades instead of spikes. If the length of the blades ran parallel to the length of the club, then pulling the club free from an obstruction would create little draw cuts. In effect, the spiked club would become a war ax with a bunch of tiny heads. To make these, you could just forge each spike into a spatulate shape instead of a rounded spike. You'd then have to sharpen each of them individually. That would be more work, and I wouldn't try to make them ax sharp or knife sharp. I'd just want them sharp enough to slide through any protective clothing into which they might become stuck. This idea wouldn't be as good for marketing purposes because it wouldn't look as cool, but that's the design that I'd rather have if I had to go into battle.
@DiesInEveryFilm2 жыл бұрын
This was copied from a museum piece, the transition still has a curve for stress reduction. Yeh I agree on the luceel i feel the barbed wire is a hang up more than anything. Look at the macuahuitl those usually had blade type edges like a sword axe
