I think the one the advantages of a fly c lure is the hook being held out in flight, i found it puts real distance on the cast, I use this on reservoir where that helps. As yet have only lost one fish using this lure and that was because i spent almost thirty seconds trying to untangle my line from my jacket while the fish enjoyed a good bit of slack line.I think the great thing about making your own tackle is your can make what you know works for you and add that split ring or not. cheers

I really like your simple solutions , Paul , ...instead of messing around with glue and paint you just utilize the clear shrink tubing ! .....and in the water your lure looks pretty much appetizing , too , ......at least for a trout , I guess , ......great work again , ...cheers , Dieter

Paul, you do a splendid job on your lure, as well as your videos. I have seen most of them and have enjoyed them all. I have to give you credit on being the frugal fisherman. I noticed your handmade whip finishing tool and have to say the first time I saw it I thought it was store bought. Keep up the great work.
@PaulAdamsTheHandmadeFisherman10 жыл бұрын
JSF 4star The whip finishing tool was something i meant to buy but kept forgetting and in the end i made one from a welding rod which i am guessing works as well. Thanks

i think i have fished all the bad spots so it was about time i got to fish some good ones. The rainbow trout was from a small reservoir in Yorkshire, i used to live a couple of miles away from it but never fished it now i live seventy miles from i go there It is called Scout Dyke. Other fishermen tend to tell where is good and sometimes they are right. thanks

Nice. Good idea. I have been turning old flying C lures into bucktail spinners. They look good if only the weather would improve so I can go and test them on some big pike

cheers Dieter, i think my simple solutions stem out of a need to get to the water sooner than waiting for paint to dry.

Nice little lure Paul! But don`t you have problems with trouts throwing off the hook? I just ask, because I usually use a little splitring to connect my hooks to the spinner, becauseI think if the connection is too stiff they can use it to lever the hook out of their mouths. And with the shrinking tube cover, there is not much room for the hook to move. Anyway, its a cool lure and as always a great video! Greets

Great video Paul love the use of clear heat shrink to keep the eyes and foil on that is a great idea I'll have to give that a try on some bigger pike spinners
@PaulAdamsTheHandmadeFisherman11 жыл бұрын
i use it for making fishing floats, if you see the video making fishing floats on a hand cranked lathe. I also use it for making some devon minnow lure mounts and sometimes for dressing treble hooks.

thanks, i was pike fishing the other evening with plugs and clipped this on for ten minutes just to see and watched a little jack follow it and strike just as it left the water but no banana. It works well for perch of decent size or little ones with bigger eyes than their bellies.

Lovely little lure. Outfishes a plain mepp 10/1. Personally, I'd ditch the yellow bead in favour of two small red beads, and change the tail to a dark red with silver holographic tinsel. And change from the copper french blade to a silver willow leaf but I'm just picky, lol.

I have so many ideas of videos to make but the hard reality is every time i improve the production it takes that bit longer to make a video. I may at some point do a tools or shop vid but at the moment i feel like i have only just scratched the surface in lure making and really want to do some more vids about more original lure ideas and recreating old forgot lures. Thanks
@bryanwilliams339511 жыл бұрын
Have you ever used old mig welding tips ? I have just collected a handful of different sizes from work ,they are copper with a hole straight through ,thought they might make spinners ,flying c ect. I get all the scrap stainless mig wire offcuts which are useful but cannot think of a good use for the miles of mild steel wire that is scrapped apart from using it for hangers.. Any ideas? You may weld yourself and have old mig tips but if you dont ,all sheetmetal workshops will have some old ones in the scrap.

Hello Paul I've just watch your video and I liked a lot. I will borrow some tips from your techniques. For example that aluminum foil to give a shiny silver to the lure, and use that transparent shrinkable tube to protect the body. Actually I'm not sure that I can find it here in Peru, but I will try. Thanks a lot for sharing your videos.
@PaulAdamsTheHandmadeFisherman11 жыл бұрын
the shrink tubing is normally used in electronics if that helps
@antonio999us11 жыл бұрын
Thank you Paul.. I use the plastic tube for my assist hooks , but I have not seen any transparent before ... that was great. I will look for it....

Love your vids Paul, especially the way you recycle materials or use inexpensive materials from discount stores. I use a lot of cheap materials for tying pike flies myself :) This lure looks great as well and surely is a great caster. One thing though- after cutting the wire with side cutters I suggest to file down the end bit so it doesn't cut or damage the line, alternatively you could cover it with a drop of uv resin or even 5 min epoxy. Take care ;)

I can't find the original supplier as it was over a year ago, but what i found when i first started using them was i tried to clamp the wire and then just wrap it round the spiked bit and this didn't make a nice loop. Then i watched a jewelry making vid,(don't ask, it was just research honest) what they did was clamp and bend a little around the spike, then rotate the pliers a little and clamp again and bend again and then repeat and i found it makes a much closer and neater eye. Cheers

Hello again Paul, A friend of mine noticed that you have a small manual drill on the backstage. I was wondering why did you do that wood-base to hold it. I understand that is tu used in horizontal position, butwil be great if you give me some additonal feedback. Thanks!!
@taverhamdave11 жыл бұрын
I bought some of those pliers, but they don't seem to make as neat eyes as yours. I think the concave bit on yours looks deeper. Could you post the ebay link at some point forus, so we get the right ones? Cheers.

Hey Paul, I would be very very glad if one of these days you could make a video, of you trout fishing! I've always liked to fish for trout but seeing how you make your own lures, it would be outstanding if you could do a trout fishing video with your own lures! P.S. your videos are the best!

Hmmm..never thought about it that way! I always tried to optimize casting length by modifieing other components. You know, more weight, thinner line etc., but next time I also will try to stiff the hook to get more distance. Btw: Situations like yours proof that our understandings of time and space have to be wrong somehow, because why on earth is such mess always happening in the 5 minutes we have a fish on and not the two hours before or afterwards :-)
@61diemai11 жыл бұрын
This surely is a good point , Paul , never seen it that way . Cheers , Dieter

How come you dont twist the wire down by the hook will it not slip out if you catch a big fish? I noticed that that the hook just slips over the wire and you didnt twist it shut?
@PaulAdamsTheHandmadeFisherman11 жыл бұрын
this is a bit of a funny one because some supplier sell it as width measured flat and some by diameter. I bought this as 12mm diameter 2-1 heat shrink so it shrinks to half its diameter. cheers

Grant Jones I think you deserve some kind of award for watching all my videos. I bought the shrink wrap on ebay it was really inexpensive. The jewelry plier also came form ebay via china, they were sold as concave to round pliers 5" and cost me about £ 4-5. Good luck and thanks

What kind of plier you used to bend the wire into little eyelets? Is it the kind with a small prong inside the gripping area? Is so, what you call that plier so I can look online and buy one. I checked the Internet for "jewelry pliers," but I don't see any prongs on those. When I looked at your video it looked like you used a plier with some kind of prong to help you bend the wire into eyelets, am I right? Thanks buddy, I love all of your videos. You have a real talent for making lures, something I want to obtain badly!
