Hand carving a saw frame with axe and knife. A design ideal for wilderness living. Open the full video description for more information.
It's the saw design I have used on most of my bushcraft trips so far. Both made from oak wood - worked green.
__________________
Materials: Oak wood, tung oil, bank line.
__________________
Most asked questions:
1. What wood did you use?
Oak - green straight from the tree... Most wood will work just fine - but hardwood is better than pine and similar soft wood.
2. Can I buy a saw like that?
You need to make one yourself or pay for custom work. I don't sell anything.
3. How long time does the saw blade "rivets" last?
Mine last easily a month or more, even if I use soft wood like pine.
4. What blade do you use?
52cm long blade made for cutting dry wood. Made by BAHCO and bought just in the local hard ware store.

Great video, really showed the process clearly. I watched my grandfather fifty years ago, make a bow saw from an oak sapling in about 20 minutes. The only thing he used was a pocket knife and the saw blade. He also used the leather lace out of his jacket for the tension string. I always remember it, because he made it from seemingly nothing and used the saw all afternoon to prune large apple tree branches down. He split the uprights about two inches up, slide in the blade and lashed it with twig and string. He used two "Y's" on a third branch for the center spreader bar and used the lace and a stick to tighten the saw. It was amazing and it always makes me think of different ways of doing simple things which we just take for granted today. Cheers, wonderful video.

Posted on his Simple Site: VIDEO GEAR: CAMERA: Nikon D7000 LENS: Nikon 50 1.8 MIC: RODE-VMM made by RØDE TRIPOD: Sirius MONITOR: Sony FILTER: ND, unknown brand --- My Note: ND filter forces wider aperture--cuts down on amount of light, Thus forcing the f1.8 aperture, causing a shallower depth of field and therefore selective focus for more subject emphasis.
