Making a frame saw / bucksaw for Bushcraft and Woodworking ( DIY | power tools | fastway )

Learn how to make a frame saw / bucksaw at home using your own power tools. A bucksaw is a (manual) hand tool used to cut logs or wood .
I spent the weekend visiting my childhood friend Ionut Catalin. Catalin uses his free time to build bucksaws. Most of them go to the bushcraft community. During my visit he showed me how he does his saws.
Whether you're cutting dry, green, or hardwood, you need the best frame saw to quickly and safely cut through a variety of wood products. A bucksaw is a (manual) hand tool used to cut logs or wood; it features an H-shaped handle, and is designed for either use by two people, or by a single person using two hands. It gets its name from the term bucking, which is a traditional term that refers to cutting logs into short lengths for use as firewood. All frame saws have large teeth with deep gullets for fast aggressive cutting through wood. “Bucking” was a term that used to refer to the rough cutting of logs ready for use as firewood, something a buck saw is specifically designed to do.
I remember well seeing my grandfather using one which he did himself.
These saws are highly portable compared to similar cutting tools, making them a popular choice for backpackers and campers. They may also be used for small land clearing projects, and are often kept on hand at farms for quick cutting jobs. Traditional or green woodworkers also rely on these tools to create wood crafts and furnishings.

Love these, I actually made a 24" folding bucksaw for myself using only an old 4 foot 2x4, my buck knife, an axe and a wooden baton. No power tools. Took me a little over 4 hours, but it's beautiful and it works amazingly well. So much more satisfied with it than if I had gone and bought one. They are pricey, too! Awesome craftsmanship! What kind of screw inserts are those you put in for the blade? Where could I find them?

I think they are the same as i use for connecting kitchen base units together. John ( uk ) Did you find any Mark?

All you need is a digital six inch micrometer and a dull carpenters pencil.
