I can understand single-cylinder and four-cylinder engines, but I still don't understand the jet engine. It's really a miracle to make a jet engine.
@Ktm250xcfw3 ай бұрын
@@RezaUpdown it's fairly simple. the first turbine pulls in air that gets compressed in a compression chamber with fuel. then the compressed fuel and air are ignited and spin the last turbine. The first and last turbine are connected by a shaft, so when the last turbine spins faster, the first one does too producing more air pressure. the more air being put into the compression chamber, the more fuel can be also. Then the process repeats. all you have to do is add more fuel, and the engine accelerates.

Thoughts on some improvements. 1. Use a 1 way bearing on the starter motor so once the engine enters self ignition, it no longer spins the starter motor. 2. Connect the starter motor to an esc and receiver so you can start it without being next to it. 3. Install a valve in the fuel flow to control how fast the engine spins and use a servo to control that valve. Now you have a RC turbofan that. Would be interesting to see if it produces enough thrust to put it in a RC airplane. To increase performance, I would get that metal fin plate machined to be as perfect as possible as well as figure out a way to add oil to the bearings to keep them from overheating. I would also build a more secure stand to hold the turbofan. Lastly, I would remake the fuel injector pipe and had more re but much smaller diameter holes and use a pip bender to get a perfect circle. Most importantly, install a flashback arrestor valve to prevent fire from back feeding into the fuel canister.

I would put safety wire or locktite on all the screws in the engine because if any of them come loose and get sucked into the engine it will self-destruct. I would also bolt the engine stand down to a solid platform and start it with an air pump so you can be away from the engine if there is a failure. Also it's important to get a quick start. When you first start a jet engine you generate a lot of heat in the combustion can and the temperature rises rapidly. As soon at the engine starts the rpm rises and more outside air enters and cools down the combustion chamber. You should probably build a remote starter panel that has a thermocouple attached to the engine to monitor combustion temperatures during start up and when running. I would also have an exhaust nozzle on the rear of the engine to contain the exhaust flames. Jet engines are dangerous machines and you don't want to be close to them if something goes wrong.

@@Randies_Scary_Stories for a homemade one you should be focusing more on constructing and maintaining full cycle rather than thrust, not because homemade is bad but rather "you should know rules before breaking them"
@mazdamaniac46435 ай бұрын
Same here, but I'd probably stick to using a gas fuel like butane or propane, purely because it's easier to throttle it and a lot quicker to cut the fuel off to shut it down. With kerosene, you've got a lot more issues because you need to feed it in under high pressure so it can vapourise at a specific rate, which is a lot of work. It doesn't help that the length of the flame can in this model engine is already quite short, so not much margin for error. It'd take a better brain than mine to work it all out. If you're determined to go with a liquid fuel, you may have more success with zippo lighter fluid because it burns a hell of a lot faster and more easily than kerosene. I did have one idea that may be useful, make a bypass air tube from the compressor stage and route it through an R/C engine carburettor, then back into the flame can. That would give you a simple way to control fuel delivery according to whatever the compressor stage air pressure is, while giving you an instant-off ability to shut it down safely.
@nickk61095 ай бұрын
Err.only slightly dangerous: 1) the spinning parts need to be balanced so they don't vibrate, come lose and end up detonating like a grenade 2) the bearings need an oil feed to keep cool and maintain lubrication.

It doesn't. If you look up some sites here where they make real jet engines, you will see gap tolerances are much smaller and the temperature rises up to 700 - 800 degrees Celsius. All with rpm 30k to 80k. This thing here was never self sustaining, nor it would withstand such high rpm, nor the temperatures. It would fly apart at those rpm and the materials would melt. They're quite easy to make out of sheet steel and a printed paper template. Tools necessary are metal shears, pliers, and a drill for the holes. Just bend the blades by hand or, if you want to make it more accurate and repeatable and you happen to have a CNC machine, make molds out of wood and press it into shape using a hydraulic press or a vise. Same thing if you have a 3d printer, but you can't use as thick steel and it is more prone to breaking. You can improve that by using progressive molds but it takes some trial and error to figure out. At the very least some research on KZbin.

There's no way that design (at that scale) would have enough compression/combustion area needed for a self sustaining burn. Small model RC jet engines only work because nearly the entire thing is a combustion chamber.
