This fused glass tutorial shows you the technique I use to make simple display stands for fused glass bowls and more. The stands can be used for fused glass bowls and platters.
Stands for fused glass art can be hard to find and often expensive. This fused glass project uses glass and moulds to make fantastic stands for your art.

Hi Everyone. Something I should have suggested in the video is that you could make these using float glass, which would make them very cheap. What do you think?

Thanks so much Jeff. I’m surprised that it is so simple and would have never thought about using the same bowl mold for slumping the stand. I can’t wait to give it a try. Can you tell me where the community tab is located?

Hi Gwen. You'll need to be on the channel page. On a desktop it's in the horizontal menu below the logo and my name. The menu that starts with Home, Video, Playlists etc. On a mobile it's at the top of the screen, in the horizontal menu, when on the channel page.

Hi Jeff I really love this idea! Wondering if there is a more precise way of measuring the opening for the stand that trial and error? And how do you decide on the thickness (width) of the stand
@RocketRoseArt
@RocketRoseArt 2 жыл бұрын
You could take a piece of cardboard and cut a cross-section of the bottom of the bowl. You could then use that to work out the points where you want it to sit to get the opening size. The curve will depend on the mould you'll use for the stand. You could use the same mould you used for the bowl and I believe the bowl will sit high enough so it won't touch the table. Hope I explained that well enough.

Thank you Jeff for all your wonderful videos!!! As a new glass fuser, I so appreciate the way you explain your process. I am working my way through your library. I was wondering if you could use etching cream to get the satin effect since a sand blaster is not an option for me.
@RocketRoseArt
@RocketRoseArt Жыл бұрын
Hi Britt. Possibly. You would have to watch the temp and time I would think, as the etching cream wouldn't etch as much as the sandblasting. Too long and the piece may polish more than you want. Worth a test. May take a bit of etching cream though, depending on the piece.🤔

Hi, is that the beetle bits cutting system you are using and do you recommend it? Also, could you tell me how often you have had to change the blade on the Taurus glass saw please? Thanks.
@RocketRoseArt
@RocketRoseArt 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Susan. Yes, it is the Beetle Bits System. Like all products, there are a couple of things that could be better, but overall I would recommend it. The Flying Beetle I am finding a little hard to use, it sticks a bit, but I'm going to try some wax. The ruler markings wore off but I could reverse it and it's fine. If they had been impressed that would have been better. But all good otherwise. I haven't changed the omnidirectional blade in the Taurus so far. Have used it for a couple of years, though I'm not in production and only hobby use. But it seems as good as new.

Hi Jeff, Great idea, thanks for sharing. What mold did you use to slump the frame? Thank you,
@RocketRoseArt

Just a large bowl mould. You could use any size. Depends on the size of the stand you want.

Is it necessary to sandblast these or would it be fine to just fuse and slump them clear?
@RocketRoseArt

Hi Sherri. You can absolutely just leave them clear. In any colour, or even using opal glass. No need to be transparent if you want.

Hello, I'm wondering if you have a source for boron in an aerosol can? I bought a hand pump bottle from USA but it wasn't all that good ( sprayed out too thick) 5 or 6 years ago I bought an aerosol can from a bloke who worked for an aluminium smelter but I can't find his details anymore. Regards Paul Hampton

@RocketRoseArt 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Paul. I purchased a carton a while back when it was called MR-97. What country are you in? I'll see if I can find a relevant supplier. Or just search for MR-97 boron nitride maybe.
