Making a gentleman's folding knife (front flipper style)

I made a small folding knife for a friend, but liked it so much that I had to make one for myself as well. I spoiled myself with a piece of Damasteel pattern welded steel and made this little gentleman's front flipper. It's called the Reymerswael model
The frames are waterjet titanium. I anodized them blue with this mistery shipwreck finish. I don't know why the finish isn't single colour, but I liked it. I hope you enjoyed the video.

Fixed blades are an important basis. Learn to grind, heat treat and finish and you can use it on all kinds of blades. But start with a friction folder, they can be simple and made with a file!

true craftsmanship, i like the absence of any teflon on the pivot pin, static friction is as good as any other type assistance bushing as long as all components fit so smoothly together as in this amazing little folder. continue on with the development of your awesome skills. 👊👆

Hi Bastian, you can make the same knife with simpler tools. Everybody needs to start somewhere. It took my 5 years to get here. So start today and who knows where you will end up :)

Sure! There are people who use files and saws to do this all.

Hi there, I have to say I am impressed with your items, considering the Chinesium tool choices. Please understand i mean this with no disrespect. I also make and sell knives, and have a Chinese made milling machine. Mine is great to be fair, but I do hear horror stories. How do you find the mini lathe? I am truly inspired by the precise end results using basic tooling. I have not yet attempted folder. I would love to get some jigs like yours. Makes the process precise for sure.

Hi Shona, thank you for your comment. I find the lathe to be to weak/not rigid enough. Therefore I use my Aciera F3 swiss 1957 milling machine as a lathe. Not ideal, but it works quite well to be honest. Best of luck on your making journey!

@@bulannn2024 lol, and this is where the lack of knowledge comes to show. You will need a milling machine for a lot of this work, a lathe etc etc. Technically this could all be done by hand but you would still need high precision tolerance gauges, and they are not cheap. So, a grinder......nope.

Alexander Bol No. I'm Korean. ^^ Such a wonderful knife cuts paper easily. A cheap, crude knife can also cut paper. So you don't need to cut the paper. I think.
