Making a GIANT TURTLE TRAP and Aquarium in my Backyard!

I decided to attempt another turtle trap, only this time make it twice as big as the last one! Then I took all the turtles and fish I caught in it and make a little aquarium for the backyard. I appreciate anyone's ideas as to how to make this better. It was a lot of fun! Keep trying new things and leveling up in real life!

I do not plan on keeping any of these animals and fish for more than a week or so. In fact, I kept that big snapping turtle for about 6 days and then released him. It's just a fun hobby! I cannot keep any long term pets because of my travel schedule. Sorry to disappoint! On the plus side, every time y'all see the aquarium it will be totally different! Literally, every new episode will have all different animals and fish than the last one!

Cool, different video Ace. You totally could keep a snapping turtle even tho you travel alot. Reptiles are dosn't have a big need list, bigger pound and maybe a person which check on them if your away for more then 2 weeks and you would be more then fine to have a AceAdventure friend for a lifetime 😊 Tong feeding snappers musst be such a fun. I'm jealous they are forbiden by law in germany to keep as pets -.-

I’m a big snapping turtle nerd and I’d be happy to lend some information to you about keeping one. 1) The water in the aquarium should be an extra foot or two deeper as they like to be able to submerge but have a shallow tank. 2) make sure to not over feed. It’ll cause problems. Research on feeding and also vitamins you might possible want to consider giving to him through food. 3) make sure to have extra coverage for them to hide in. Your best bet is to put duckweed or salvinia (both a floating plants) in the tank so he feels hidden. Also provides a food source as 1/3 of their diet consist of plants. 4) when the snapping turtle gets bigger, your gonna have to move him to a possible 500 to 750 gal troph (they get up to 40 pounds). 5) make sure you do water changes every once and a while. Out of many turtle species, snapping turtles are very messy with their feces. Your gonna want to have to do regular water changes. (Watch videos on water changes for turtle aquariums, can be a video on aquarium changes for any turtle, it’ll work) 6) Reminder to do a lot of research. I one time considered getting a snapping turtle though keeping the water clean in the tank was too much for me so I decided to buy a boa constrictor instead. Make sure you do a lot of research though so you know what your up against 7) make sure you do research on turtle diseases. There are things such as shell rot that can be problems if the wrong husbandry is given to the turtle. As a warning for keeping wild turtles, symptoms in different sicknesses may be different since this one you are keeping is not captive bred (which is why captive bred ones are the better route) 8) be mindful that this is a wild caught turtle. They are going to be (possible) a little bit more of a pain to take care of than captive bred specimens. 9) make sure to get more equipment for the turtle so you have it when you need it (like siphons for water changes) 10) Make sure to pick up any clumps of turtle feces you see including scraps of food it possible didn’t eat 11) make sure your turtle has proper behaviors for ensured health. This includes basking (unlike other turtles, snappers don’t bask much so don’t be worried), activity every once and a while (they are more active they their cousins, the alligator snapper) proper feeding behaviors, non-lethargy, no unusually behaviors, etc. 12) that’s actually all I can think of, I’ll edit this comment if there’s anything else I need to cover. These are some essential things to think of when taking care of a snapper. Besides that, they aren’t hard to take care of besides maintaining the water quality. Good luck! ✌️ I recommend watching “Greg’s Turtle Haven” KZbin channel. He’s a big snapping turtle enthusiast and owns lots of them. He has videos on what it’s like to own them and also basic care requirements. Besides that, ill just say, make sure you do your research. Btw, what are you gonna name him?

You can also use your aquarium as a little fun fishing spot for your nieces and nephews. You can get little bait fish and give them little nets. And then you have bait to use. My grandpa did something similar for my younger cousins it just wasn’t as big.

That smaller turtle you caught is actually a razorback musk turtle, that's about as big as they get. Alligator snapping turtles and common snapping turtles love to eat them.

You can also use crayfish frogs even little fish for the turtle as food the love it

Hi there. I have a tip for you regarding crayfish fishing. Get some bait on some sharp sticks. Go somewhere shallow and array your bait sticks in a big circle by pushing them in the bottom ( sharpened) Wait a while and just go around collecting the crayfish that’s gathered by the bait. Did this as kids and it works so dammed well if there are a lot of crayfish. Tip number two. Take some nylon fishing line and make a big ball of tangles. Just a big birds nest. Take a stick and line or just your rod with a hook and sinker and nestle the hook inside. Bait the hook and throw out. The crayfish will tangle in the fishing line.

Paused at 18:25 You should use a box design that forces the turtles up a ramp. Think a square version of one of those round minnow traps with the funnel. You make it so the square funnel is on both sides. I've seen something like that used for crabs. Like for crabs a flat ramp would probably work better for directing them. If it's big enough you can probably make one that has an entrance on all 4 sides.

Always thought it’d be cool to keep an “aquarium” of the prettiest “creek fish” you can catch. The prettiest bluegills. Smallmouths, largemouths, and so on. Feed them and watch them grow. Would be a cool long term setup, but maybe not possible for you. Love your videos man. Gosh that bass pro pond in Bristol for some monster bass, bluegill, and catfish. Unfortunately for your channel, catch and release, but they feed them daily and man there are some big fish in there!!

Use chicken livers abd a pole...turtles love them! I have caught tons of them❤ i have made some beautiful Art pieces from them. Don't pick them up by their sides! You will loose a finger! Pick them up by their tail! I caught a 45 pound snapper once!❤ Be careful!!😂 The turtles ate your bluegill! LOL!😅

I snagged the hugest turtle about two weeks ago! He almost bit through my line but I was fishing for cat so I had my super spider line on. My son was so mad we didn’t grab him to keep him but that big head snapping at you is very intimidating!!
