Estee and I tried to have a lighthearted discussion whilst making a gingerbread house, but ended up chatting about alcohol and contraception. Classic.

Estée, you are such an amazing person :D I really enjoy every video with you! So open, grounded and nice! I would like to here about your experiences with the pill-detox in some time! Myself I haven't stop to take her for 13 years but just finished my last package :S I'm already scared what will happen to me XD But yes, all the bad things I have read about the pill have made me stop it now, i even suggest it has caused some depressive moods at the long term for me. So I look forward :) Greetings, Bettina

I think it's so significant that you and Estee are talking about drinking--or not drinking, specifically. The notion of abstaining from drinking is something I genuinely never come across, but I think it's super beneficial to discuss publicly. Each non-drinker has very distinct and different explanations as to why they choose not to consume alcohol and that is not at all represented in modern culture. Not drinking is simply deemed unacceptable and bizarre in our society and has led me to feel significantly alienated. I find it really insightful and comforting that you two are opening up the conversation.

I see so many women talking about how bad the pill is for you and that they got off it, but nobody talks about how to protect afterwards? That's what I think would be interesting to discuss

So pleased to see you guys talk about the alcohol issue. Like Estee I'm allergic and it's so true that when you don't drink you realize how alcohol-centric social life is in our culture. People always question and pressure you when you abstain and sometimes it can feel quite isolating.

Two of my favourite youtuber women! Genuine, mature (i.e not giggling like children when talking about things like contraception or alcohol etc), not constantly trying to sell impressionable young girls products. Thank you for speaking to my demographic (mid/late 20s), as well as being great role models for the younger generation too. x

I love how open you both are, in the youtube world it's refreshing. I too don't drink very often, and I think I'm still trying to figure out how to navigate social functions without making myself or others feel awkward because of it. One thing I've found though is if I just have any kind of drink in hand - a pop, a water, just anything - that people tend not to ask as much if I'd like something. If I am walking around empty handed though it feels like every other minute someone is going "Can I get you something???"

Feeling all kinds of connected with you two right now between these two collab videos. Thank you both for talking about such raw subjects. As someone who has had issues with alcohol changing my behavior DRASTICALLY at a young age, and having friends who are on a slippery slope, it's something we need to create a dialogue about and I'm thankful you both were so open.

I don't drink either. Just stay strong, your friends will bug you at first; but after a while they'll respect you for it. And it's me they call when they forget where they put their keys, purse, phone and who helps them get home, and who fills in the gaps from the night before. They'll be grateful, trust me ;)

I have a LOT of friends, many of whom are female, under the age of 25 who have alcohol issues but who are either in denial or just haven't ever thought about it as a "problem." I think they just assume they'll grow out of it. So hearing you speak about it, and seeing that you have had others reach out to you, gives me hope for all of those people as well. Good luck on your journey Lucy.

I can SO relate to the no alcohol thing. I haven't had a sip of alcohol since I was 19 for a similar reason to Estée in that it makes me incredibly ill, and makes my nights more crappy than fun. But its really hard when, no matter where you go, everyone says "want a drink?" and you respond with : "just water thanks!" and they look at you like you're an alien. Most people respect it a lot, but sometimes I definitely wish that I could get involved and have a bit more fun!

I have a weird relationship with alcohol, two people in my close family are alcoholics. It makes me super insecure and I drink sparingly now because of it. I never would drink alone and even if I have a specific craving for a drink when at a bar it always worries me that I'm turning into those people who have ruined both their lives. I think you're doing great Lucy and for doing something about it so young, is definitely a mighty step! Xx

I just went off the pill a month ago as well! Never really realized until now how much it affected my mood, when I went on it I was pretty much recovering from the worst depressive episode I've had so far in my life so I guess I just assumed the random mood swings and getting upset and worked up about little things was kind of a part of my personality. Now that I've been off it for the month, I've been able to realize how much I've actually grown over the 3 + years I was on it and how I am a rational person :P hahahah. That first period though is absolutely brutal D:

For me, the most annoying part about coming off of the pill after being on it for 5 years was acne. I had to completely change my skin care routine, get a retin-A prescription from the derm... etc. I have been off of the pill for 8 months and am just now understanding what is best for my "no added hormones" skin. Also, makeup that never clogged my pores while I was on the pill now causes zits. Apparently, added estrogen can cause your skin to produce less sebum, so when you come off of the pill your skin may become oilier, which is why so many people start the pill to treat acne. So my recommendation is just to keep an eye on your skin and don't be surprised when your holy grail products start causing problems. Best of luck!

honestly i relate to that whole. ugh everyone around me drinks and it feels weird that i don't thing. i don't drink, never have, because of some Trauma with a capital T stuff from when i was like 15, but like. that's not the kind of thing you say to an acquaintance at a party when they're asking you why you don't want the beer they just offered you, and i always feel odd and out of place at social things cos i'm the only sober person there

Aww don't be scared, I was like that in university. Around that age I just made the decision not to drink. As I hit 20 my friends were super supportive since I was on medication. Was still able to party and have fun with my friends. Now I'm 26, and consume alcohol on social occasions. But not a lot.

i agree with you two--it is incredibly hard to be a young person (i am 23) and not drink. i haven't had a single drink in almost a year now because of the medications i'm on. i can't even count the number of times people have been shocked and then asked me why i'm not drinking after they offer alcohol and i decline. it's incredibly uncomfortable! i don't always want to explain my medications and i can only imagine how much harder it would be if it were for reasons related to alcoholism.

Speaking from personal experience as a person who doesn't drink, I think that a lot of people just take the not drinking thing personally- like "wait, why aren't they drinking? Is there something wrong with drinking? Should I not be drinking?" and they're not really annoyed at you for not drinking, they're annoyed at you for making them second-guess themselves. Or maybe that's not it at all, who knows

I loved this! You both seem so authentik and I had the feeling that I was just a third person sitting in front of youre table. You didn't talk like if you were in front of a camera. I m thinking of some youtubers who seem over the top on theyr videoes and hyper quirky and funny and "omg i'm so weired haha" kind of talk. (Which can of course be very entertaining but..) You two seemed to let us in to a very intimate kind of talk. It seemed so honest and open. I love youre quriosity for finding out stuff and learnig from youreself. I always have these kind of konversations with people, nr one topic "how did I experience this or that and how did you experience it" I sometimes am afraid that I seem to selfobsessed becouse I love sharing philosophical reveals. But whatching youre Video of how interesting it is to hear about other peoples experiences with life questions and choices, it reminded me that sharing these intimate learning stages can be benefitial for anyone truly listening. It is very enriching to hear other peoples perspektives for theire behaviors, fears and doubts which we all share. Other topik: I stopped taking the pill quite simultaniously with hannah wittons hormon diaries. I stopped becouse I experienced great lack of motivation for anything, tiredness, stressfulness, angst and a big lack of libido. So almost no passion at all for anything. I imagine it beeing similar to sympoms of Depression. I actualy thought I had some kind of depression but then I decided to go of the pill which I had been taking for 9 years. I just wanted to eliminate every possible explanation for my lack of motivation. Well it has now been almost 4 month and I feel happy and calm and passionate. I have never felt like this. Yes the cramps are bad for one day a month, but thats a small price for new found passion and motivation and happiness. I can only recomand to everyone, to stop taking hormones for protection. It just messes up youre whole hormonesystem which plays a big role in your phsychological health. I wish I could have been in on your talk. I feel like we could have talked until dawn

i only took the pill for a bit more than a year, and i am sure it took me more than 2 years for my whole body to get back to "normal". i think people have to understand how much is being changed in your body by taking hormones daily. so it's totally normal if it's not all back to normal after 3 months. i learned to appreciate the signs of my body though now that i knew that they're really my body's and not hormones influencing my body. it's nice :)

After all, pills are hormones, your body is used to that stimuli all the time, so when you quit, your hormones will be at very different levels than you're used to so it feels way different in how it affects your emotions, but soon, your body will balance itself out, don't worry ;)

On the alcohol thing; I was shocked in one of my lectures a few years ago. Two glasses of alcohol everyday is considered being an alcohol, EXCEPT when you are a college student. What the heck, I don't get this at all. And I don't drink, but I also don't have a lot of social contacts any more. The social contacts that I have never bother with me not wanting to drink. But people will wine over everything. For instance; my breakfast is a warm meal, people are bothered by that. I don't drink milk and don't eat pig, people are bothered by that. But I don't give a fuck that they do, but they assume that I do. 😂

im a non-drinker partly by choice but also i get super sick after 1 drink too. Its so annoying being 26, and living in a huge alcohol-centric culture (i live in australia). Everything is celebrated with a drink and it always seems to feel like if you dont drink you are "not celebrating" or "im making a big deal" etc. I am so sick of people making a big deal out of it. It doesnt matter, and if you are judging somebody for not drinking i think i reflects more on you than the non-drinker.

If I ever start up a channel I am so keen to make a video on alcohol and my experiences a mostly non-drinker, but I worry it would come off sounding preachy because I have no interest in being drunk?! It's such a tricky topic because people get really defensive if you try and have a conversation about it even if you're not trying to insult or blame anyone

I've never been on the pill and I'm about to be 20 but I've had mood swings and stuff on the times that I'm not on my period and just super sensitive emotionally and with really bad cramps when I'm on. I wonder what it'll be like when I do get on the pill.

I know a few people who don't drink, and it's never weird, nobody forces them to drink or judges them.
