The girls at Lumber Capital Log Yard saw from the other end so they stay out of each others' way - operating from one end, swamping at the other. Emerald, who usually operates, complained that the debarker sprayed her with chips. They built her a little shack to operate from so she stays out of harm's way.

You might think about a couple of fire extinguishers, one at each end of the building. Don't get little kitchen size, get the size that the fire engines carry.

Yes excellent advice and i would also add get 2 of the abc type and 2 of the water only type for wood fires and hay fires. If you look or talk to the local FD they can advise on the water type they are user refillable with water and air if you get the good ones.

Build a couple of sets of low saw horses to pile lumber on as it comes off the mill. One set for flitches to feed into edger and one for finished boards (snickered). Then your skid steer is not tied up. Skid steer the finished lumber to final palette storage.

Once the LT 70 has a permanent spot, use your mud machine to pour some footers for the jacks. That way everything will stay sorta, kinda plum and level. It’ll save you money from pouring concrete around it and your feet. Use the savings for the electrical.

The best 2-cycle oil I have ever bought was Amsoil. It is 100: 1. You are going to want to put that crushed rock out in front of the sawmill when you are loading logs to keep the mud from happening and making a mess.

You know you're gonna end up moving the kiln down by the new pole barn. Consolidate your enterprises. You'll need to relocate the burn pile, and establish a chipper station, too. You're on the right track with the sawmill setup. Ease of getting new logs to it is the most important thing. When you run electric to the pole barn, you might as well run a water line, too.

The set up for the mill reminds me of the bearded lumber guy in North Carolina logs come in one side and lumber out the other side good idea . When I build a sawmill building I plan on doing the same floor plan. And before we picked up our LT35 my 88year old father made some pads to put under the outriggers out of 2 pcs of 3/4 pressure treated plywood a😊nd they make a deference he even painted them orange to match the mill.

I found Mechanic's Solvent works well to remove pitch and tar from my car and tools, if you would like to try it. It has not hurt the paint, but I have not used it on plastics. The good part is that the stuff I get isn't flammable. For the thick buildup, maybe soak a paper towel and lay it over the built-up areas.

I would move the edger to the other side and put the saw mill to the outside wall that way you wouldn't get rain blowing in on you with the high peak. That is if you have room between the side pole of the barn for logs. The thing with concrete is not to pour it too wet. If it is poured thin it won't be as strong and can crack.

A couple of thoughts/questions that come to mind are having a closed & locked shop area for tools and maintenance supplies and blade sharpening. Seems like you'd need that close by. The other thought is having all those open walls, and all that equipment down there could open you up to theft being that close to the road. They could steal stuff and be gone before you could get down there from the house.

Old saw mill shop, add some equipment to skip plane boards and mill lumber into custom made trim. You could even make hardwood flooring custom per order. Long stripes not the short cut stuff you get at the big box stores. Raw no finnish but custom made parts. Stair treads ex.. Or you could just store pre cut wood in it and sell per board foot. Its your show.

Evening Nathan, If you have a Dollar Tree near you, see if they have a product called "Awesome". They carry it in our store here in Maine. It is in a clear bottle and the liquid is yellow. They make several other awesome products that clear various items, but the yellow one does an amazing job on pine pitch. It cleans pitch off our plastic picnic table as well as our cars. No effect on the car finish. The stuff is truly "awesome". Love the new barn. Dave

Well the old barn I would use it to store some Planks or maybe firwood as well.

Might I suggest, respectfully ~ 1. "THAT YOU IMMEDIATLEY! lol" ~ add security to the control console to prevent it from walking off one night! (Assume, that you placed a camera up high? I have been looking for a security alarm speaker that plays ~ 'Barking Dogs and Machine Gun Fire'! ',) Cable and lock? Maybe weld a 'ring' to the console box? Chain-up a German Sheppard? 2. Add some type of 'shade protection for that corner of the 'FACILITY'? Wind tarp? Could be hung on rings, on a cable and thusly adjustable for ventilation needs. Love the channel and following your ~ 'Adventures on the Farm'!

i'm glad your your back to sawing. I was wondering how you paid for all these additions. I suppose saw milling is your bread and butter.

I think I have seen a mud mixer that mounts on the skid loader. Use the skid loader hyd to mix the mud, then you can dump it where you want.🇺🇸👍🤪
