Good luck. I am not very happy with the mushroom top I made in this video. The kids thought that it was too soft if I just used carpet padding. I have since switched to using a combination of carpet padding and (of all things) 1/4"" thick fiberglass insulation. That gives the mushroom a firm top. The base is the same though. I made 5 of these this fall.

what is the name of the material you used for the soft surface

The cushioning we used is carpet padding (padding that goes under carpet), cut into concentric circles. We have found that to be a little soft, so in recent incarnations, I've added a firmer top. Covering it all is vinyl, which I got from a local fabric store.
