This was so interesting to watch the process of making a sacred instrument. I'm not directly comparing at all, but it reminds me of bohdrum Celtic drums. I feel as a Scottish person that we were persecuted in the past and lost our language for the most part thanks to the dominance of English language (speaking Gaelic was illegal at one point). I've just started my journey into becoming a Gaelic speaker and enjoy my cultural heritage and the music that passes our stories down to new generations. You made an excellent instrument! I got here because I was looking for how to create a braid for my own drum...

For those of you commenters who are offended by the disclaimer, need I remind you that there are specific teachings and ways we make and use the drum in ceremonies that some non natives don’t understand, every white person I have met who has a drum has disrespected it, a lot of our songs that we sing are in our languages that some people won’t appreciate especially when they didn’t lose their language to be able to sing those sacred songs, a lot of non natives I have met only see the drum as a simple instrument you and hit with a stick and sing meaningless chats without regard for the spiritual significance, so yes I’m glad she put the disclaimer as some of our sacred items are not for the public to use

I am not Native American ( at least not in this life time) I bought a Hardwood drum frame and Skin and a Drum stick because I hope to start a Drumming Circle and also to honor the memory of my late Life Partner of 11 years John ( who was Choctaw and Cherokee).BUT I AM CLEARLY IN OVER MY HEAD HERE!!!! Try a copper tube and sharpen the edge. You can tap it with a hammer and it will make perfect holes

When ever you make your disclaimers I would not use the terms native or indigenous because it is a really broad spectrum. There are tribes in America that allow non native people to use and make hand drums. In fact some encourage it because it is good to hear the drum and the drum beat because of what it represents.

Also some tribes teach that women are not allowed to play drums for varied reasons. I too know of some tribes that openly taught "white dudes."

Thank you for having the grit to say this. I wanted to say almost exactly what you said, word for word but I was reluctant as I didn't want to offend anyone. However, being of Choctaw and Cherokee lineage I have always been more than happy to share even the most sacred elements of the teachings and beliefs I was instilled with by my elders. Disrespectful actions will continue unless one is educated on what they're doing and how they can correct it. This is just my opinion, and I mean no disrespect to the OP of this video and I do value and appreciate your hard work.
