8:02 omg I was expecting some sort of punchline after "since the game was almost like Tennis...", because that's what the intonation suggested. But then that was just it, and I laughed a lot 🤣🤣🤣

Honestly this game has a lot of thoughts in it that even a lot of released games don't have. Like making the power bar wiggly when full is such a nice touch. It clearly shows you really think like a game designer. I see a lot of youtubers that just go through the motions and end up with confusing or lacklustre games. I think you will go far in games if that's what you pursue 👍

i'd really like to see you try and make a shadow of the colossus esque game where you have to climb giants and hit weak points to kill them, maybe you use the rank to aim a bow/swing a sword? perhaps maybe aiming a grappling hook so it's more fun to go up the giant?

@@SquidGodDev thanks! but i mean i just thought it was a cool thought! maybe the crank just cycles between the bow/sword/hand/glider? like in the original game? so you select the thing you want and "activate" it by pressing up on the d-pad, like you activate the bow by presseing up and now the crank angles it instead of changing item, and to deactivate it just press up again!

Hey, this is air hockey, not tennis! Just kidding, it doesn't matter because it plays well. Very good title. The presentation is what really shines. Transitions are clean and not too long. Announcer voices are my second favorite thing in all of gaming. It is ABSOLUTELY perfect here and adds a ton of flavor. Now I understand how much attitude this game really has. The music is great (I like the byeuuu buheuuuuuuuuuu in the background)! It reminds me of old flash games with short music loops made in ACID Xpress. The net adds a ton of energy to the visuals. Very very smart addition. One thing is that I think a timer system would be better than the meter system for dashing. Maybe a flash when it's ready or a closing circle or something. Knowing how many hits away from a dash doesn't change my decision making at all. Actually, I am pretty disappointed in the fact that there is no custom wrapping paper. I understand I know I know you made this in like zero time, but the custom wrapping paper should really be the first thing you do (shame). This was a brilliant surprise. Have a good vacation!

@SquidGodDev
@SquidGodDev Жыл бұрын
It's super fun for sure. I personally like it cause I think it's amazing that I can make games for a handheld and since it's been out less than a year, there's still a lot of "firsts" to do on the console. If you're just interested in making little games, I would probably recommend PICO-8 first, but if that doesn't quite scratch the itch, then the Playdate might be something to go for.

You can't directly compare the processor speed. That was basically oversimplified. Yes, I know this isn't a hardware channel before I get stopped in the comments by fanboys. The segment could of been skipped and briefed that this thing is not really a powerhouse at all.
@SquidGodDev
@SquidGodDev Жыл бұрын
Yeah I was thinking about that just today actually. Realized I didn't think about multiple cores and other ways faster processors use to process more instructions faster like pipelining, branch prediction, and cache management. The turnaround for the script was pretty short and I wanted to have a point of reference for how much slower the Playdate is, but I'll think more about that next time.

4:20 whatever you did probably works in practice, but I think this math is off? The cosine only works when the ball and the racket are on the same x dimension, because only then would you get the right angle necessary for trigonometry. Otherwise, think about it: if the ball were to be further from the player, but at the same angle, then the cosine would mathematically be the same. But that's not what you're doing here I think. EDIT: I'm profoundly stupid, you're not getting the distance to the racket, but the horizontal distance to the ball.
@SquidGodDev
@SquidGodDev Жыл бұрын
Haha no worries. I was thinking about changing the speed based off the distance along the racket, but decided against it for some reason
