After the handle was put into the head then cut off I'm going why did he do that. Then as you went to place it onto the lathe, it all made sense. You didn't want the handle hole to get chewed up while turning the head. Great project Andy. Thanks for sharing...

You don't have to fill the hole. It is safe enough to turn with the hole in it. I didn't believe it either but I've done it a lot.

Its so wierd that I love these videos. We used to do the same thing in 6th or 7th grade (working with wood, steel and stuff..). But for me, that class was boring. And I was watching your videos at that time! And I loved them! (Still do) Am I the only one?

Just want to say I came from Matt from Demolition Ranch - Stayed for the artisan approach to wood working. I love the attention to details - chamfering the edges on the wedged portion. I enjoy the filmstyle - I actually kept blinking when the chisel broke through the mallet head (Felt like dust flying into my eyes). Keep it up, i really enjoy watching.

This inspired me to go make my own mallet. I dont have a lathe so it will not be round. I have maple and oak in my yard so I guess that's what I'm using. Maple for the head and oak for the handle.
