today we are taking a stab at a "Jacobs Ladder"toy.previously on my own i had knocked together a prototype as a possibility for a kids daycamp craft but rejected it because of the fiddliness of it but thought it was still worth a better made version

Wow Doug ... First time I ever saw anything like this........ You brought back a fond memory. I'm 51 now and remember when I was a child at summer church camp. We were doing wood working projects and I remember a specific one where we were to get a picture of our family all together and we burnt the edges all around the edges and then glued it to a block of wood that we had hand sanded for days. After the glue set we then torched the wood lightly around the picture and then painted it with a gloss shellac. Turned out beautiful and my mother welled up in tears when I gave it to her.

Fantastic instructional video. Reminded me of craft time at 4-H and church camps. Jacob’s Ladders are so much fun. Woodworking was my passion so I really enjoyed seeing the wood after you gave it a mineral oil rub. BTW, you clean up real nice.😊

Round off the corner/edges a little more where the ribbons wrap around. The wood will flip flop easier and smoother that way, they wont get hung up on the corners. You wont have to gap them so far either.

If you round off all the edges with your belt sander you probably wouldn't need the spacers (like a semi-circle). Won't be loosey goosey and will work better. I had one made out of plastic in the 1940s or 50s (whenever they invented plastic).
