YASS!! Looks amazing and can only assume it holds an edge well. I restored my mom's favorite kitchen knife and made a matching protective sleeve for the blade and honestly shocked myself by how amazing it looks. Still, I love knives and honing my knife sharpening skills and have been wanting to make my own knife. I looked for ways without a forge and wasn't impressed until I found your video. Game on!

Interesting project, Thanks for sharing. Many years ago when I was a slaughterman, many of us made our honing steels out of round files. Hours of work in smoothing them off and polishing with emery cloth. Chainsaw files were the choice in making small but highly effective honing steels. Our knives where alway razor sharp and didn't need a big steel to maintain the edge......

Looks awesome! But I'm curious if all that constant grinding might have compromised the heat treat of the edge. I saw some discoloring of the metal that got buffed out later... is it able to retain its edge well? Thanks!

Gracias Franco, no es necesario la lima ta viene bien templada y si es buena mejor. Con el calor del desbaste coge un templado casi perfecto. Como puedes ver corta todo sin problema.

My dad made knives out of old files about 80 year ago and he used aluminum for handles he worked in a ice plant and they had everything he needed, he also made blades from old crosscut saw blades that lasted for ever.

Had a friend back in the early 70's that used to make razors from rasp files. We worked in a local slaughter house and used razor sharp blades on a daily basis.
