Id love to do this with one of the files i got from my wife’s grandfather. He was a union boiler maker and then a union electrician later in life. I inherited a ton of his tools including a plethora of files.

Very good job, I liked to watch a process and the result is awesome. The only thing I'd mention is music. It is really something. Even when I turned off a sound, it remained in my head. I felt myself zombie, but finally happy zombie. Good luck with future projects

That's probably the best file knife I've seen. Style and quality wise. I bought a couple file knives from museum replica and the handles fell off after a month on both of them. If I send them to you can you fix them 🤣

Great job making that knives. I just got almost done making a knife out of a horseshoer's rasp. I still need to do the final sharpening on my 6" belt sander. I wanted to put the brass lanyard pin in the end of the handle like you did but I had to settle for 4 brass screws because of a stupid mistake while sanding. I made my own sheath that turned out ok ( not my best work). All in all it's 75% to your 100% perfection. It's stout. I also have a large Old Nickelson that I have cut out and will be working on next. It's 1/8 of an inch thick and now I have some great ideas because of your video. I found both files metal detecting in 1985 here close to home.

Thumbs way up! Fantastic job. It meant so much to me to have a hand made knife and sheath passed on to me as a teenager. Unfortunately, it was stolen in a burglary as an adult. These treasures pass on more than a quality knife. They pass on love and the effort shown that stays with you for as long as you own it.

Thank you! It really depends on the design of the knife and the difficulty. I try to make sure I leave enough room in my time estimates for life stuff to happen, if I get it done before that then that's just a plus lol.

Great video and nice knife. I have made a few file knives but my heat treatment is tempering in the oven only as the files are already hardened. I mostly use farriers rasps provided they are not case hardened. Thank you for sharing your work

I really like stock removal. Less chance for fractures and cold shuts. The buffing wheel in the press is a cool idea. I have had close calls with buffing wheel on bench grinder and actually damaged a blade I was working on because it caught and threw it into the grinder guard.

I work with knives almost everyday. It looks beautiful!! The knives I have of this type metal part of the handle is a little thinner so as to keep a closer balance. I know the will never be in perfect balance, however, trying to keep it as close as possible without giving up on the handles look. It is nice looking and well designed knife thank you sharing!!!

Awesome skills. I purchased several machete style knives along with bowie style when on assignment in the Philippines in the early 80's when in the Army. The locals would scavenge the brass canisters from 105mm howitzers to use for adorning the handles. Blades made from truck leaf springs. No special tools or equipment. Also make butterfly knives. Skills like yours must be passed on to next generation. Sir, I salute you
