In this video I am trying to make a knife from a file as quickly as possible. I wanted to try and make the knife in under 60 Minutes, but because my sander is slow and I had to set up the camera shots it took about 99.

I wanted to try and make the knife in under 60 Minutes, but because my sander is slow and I had to set up the camera shots it took about 99. If i make a new belt grinder and just film the whole process as a time lapse I think I could easily make this knife in under 60 Minutes. I've now fixed my electric foundry and the big 12mm knife should be done soon!

you need to make your own belt grinder, i made my own and it makes grinding bevels so much easier and faster, and really arnt that hard to make. Good luck

You need a 2 x 72 square wheel belt grinder. It will become one of your most used tools, and you'll wonder why you waited so long. There are kits, and plans available, you can build one fairly cheaply, and you can add to it over time, with different sized wheels to change the configuration.

I recently made a 2x72 belt grinder, it eats metal like i eat pizza (quickly) and i managed to do it for less than 200 pounds (but i did already have a motor), i think something like it could really help you if you were planning on doing more knives like these or possibly bigger ones...

Great video and nice idea. I think it isn't really about creating a piece of art in just over 1.5 hours but more about seeing what you can do. It is always nice to push yourself to the limit to see what you can do. And after all you got yourself a pretty nice looking knife - atleast in my opinion - that you can actually use without the fear of scratching it. Keep it up and greetings from Germany.

Try using a stone disc for aluminium on steel. It works amazing, of bites away material like mad and it heats up the steel practically nothing. Doesn't wear too quickly either

Great video! If you had any problems on grinding the plunge lines you can put about 10mm thick plate between your belt sander and belt and then you can grind plunge lines much easier. Just a random tip that came to my mind while watching you grind the bevels.

From what I've read, when you want to anneal file steel you need to keep it hot for a good length of time, which you can't really do with a torch.

In order to anneal steel, you need to heat it to critical temperature and allow it to cool as slowly as possible (2-3 degrees per minute). What you did on the handle was just tempering, which should have brought the hardness down but not very much. In any case, that's a really neat knife, good job!
@nakoawarrior3186
@nakoawarrior3186 5 жыл бұрын
Yeah to drill through a file It takes about 6 drill bits per hole and you have to drill it when its cherry red. The best way ain't pretty you heat it up cherry red and then blow holes through with a mig welder You grind the area flat then you glue it together with J.B. Weld and it works out perfect. For Small knifes old circular saw blades make good knife blades and they are so light.

Like, how do you get the money to have all this stuff and keep making more videos with 200k subscribers?? I know that's a lot but, is it enough to make a living off of?
