I agree. Though I wouldn't leave the knife in there until the sheath has dried out. Great job, Jeremy!

That looks easy enough. I'm starting the process of learning how to make sheaths for the knives I make so I'm glad it doesn't seem to hard or costly.

Turned out great! I made the switch not too long ago to using leather lacing needles to stitch. They are a bit thinner, but are flexible. Makes the saddle stitch a little bit easier when dealing with smaller holes.

Incredible video as always but I get ask why don't dye before gluing?
@Simplelittlelife
@Simplelittlelife 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I just prefer it. I tell myself the glue holds better to raw leather than dyed leather but that probably isn’t very important. I’ve tried dying before glue and I just prefer this way better. 👍

What weight is the leather? It doesn't look like you wet form the leather around the knife, do you find you don't need to do this? Do the vises leave marks in the leather? When you punch using the pricking iron, does it completely penetrate the other side or do you have to use an awl to get a full through hole? Sorry for all the questions, I'm trying to perfect my leather sheath making.

How do you prevent the inner “patch” from getting hooked by the tip of the knife? Is it not better to edge after stitch line?

What a beautiful piece! Simply stunning and prefectly exectuted as far as I can tell with my little knowledge. Do you have some experience with wet-forming such sheaths as well? Thanks for this video :)
@Simplelittlelife
@Simplelittlelife 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much, I appreciate that. I have tried wet forming once but the sheath I did it on was an early sheath. Functionally it worked great but aesthetically it didn’t look so hot. Thanks for the reminder, I should give it another go. Cheers 👍
