Thank you! We almost managed to win a prize with the work at the Biennale for Contemporary Chirstian art, here in Bulgaria but a very beautiful (and large) icon was the winner in the end. Right now, the book is in a private collection in the UK.

I'd love it if you'd create a vid on how to Gild, the materials, binder, irons. That's the one thing I'm lacking, and I find a lot of conflicting information out there. Love this newest series. Thank you for including me in the process!

Thank you as well! Unfortunately, I do need to take some classes myself, before I feel comfortable to educate other people on the subject. I still have a lot to learn and wouldn't want to mislead people.

Thank you for what you do! keep it up! I attend a weekly bible study, and the pastor has organized the lessons into these little booklets. i wanted to find a good way to store them for later use. After watching some of your videos, I have decided that, as they already come in signatures, to bind them in a book myself. i have 9 weeks to allocate supplies and practice before i have all the lessons ;) I'm definitely going simple (cloth and hard bound), but its still very exciting.

What is that magic tool you used to get the remaining gold off? The one you rolled on the surface? I always pull off half my gilding trying to wipe mine away. Gorgeous and inspiring work as usual
@Stopan
@Stopan 5 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I just use a kneaded eraser. I'm not sure if it's the proper term in English. It's like a soft rubber which I roll to make into a long stick to cover more surface.What are you using? Is it pulling it off because it's too sticky or because the gold didn't stick too well?
@grimtt
@grimtt 5 жыл бұрын
Stopan it looks like a charcoal eraser, rolled into a “stick” . Clever! 👍

I've been wondering lately about the process of creating facsimiles of various illuminated manuscripts, like the Book of Kells or any of the book of hours tomes. The printer and finding digital files worth reproducing might be difficult, but combined with this level of binding it might be worth the trouble.

Hello, Ive been wanting to back into bookbinding after some amateur attempts, and was wondering about the tool that can be seen at 1:25, where its like a small table shaped vise with rails that a plane fits onto. What is this tool called? it seems very useful. Is it commercially available or homemade and if the latter are there plans for it somewhere? Hope youre well.
@Stopan
@Stopan 4 жыл бұрын
Hello! The vice-like tool is generally called a lying press, while the addition that cuts the book edges is called a bookbinding plough or plane. This particular one was bought from James at oliveandoak.com/ Have a great week!

Awesome, as always, but my question is unrelated to the bookbinding process and the Four Gospels, what I really want to know is: Who's the Saint in the icon at the end of the video and where can I buy one like that?
@Stopan
@Stopan 5 жыл бұрын
Hey! The saint is St. Clement of Ohrid, a disciple of St. st. Cyril and Methodius. He was instrumental for the enlightenment of the Bulgarian people of the past and spreading of the Cyrillic alphabet. It was a present from my parents for my birthday some 7-8 years ago, or maybe less, I've forgotten. It was commissioned from Iliana Betsinska. You can find her work here: ikoni.eu/%D0%B8%D0%BA%D0%BE%D0%BD%D0%B8 Although the website is old and unresponsive, and in Bulgarian. We have many artists creating icons here and most of them do an excellent job.
