Thank you very much. It has been cloudy for the last two weekends and I get home too late to fiddle much with my new telescope, purchased with one of the main goals being to use it for the eclipse. It is Saturday before the eclipse and I have not been able to consistently find the sun. I was at the point of about to leave the telescope home but your video saved the day. It was so easy to find the sun and it was too late to buy a finder. The do-it-myself was practically free. I had all the parts lying around including the pipe and spray can caps (black and translucent). Thank you so very much for sharing.

I’m glad the video helped you. I’m also hoping to capture the eclipse, but the weather is forecast to be a mix of clouds and sunshine.

Thinking about this idea, I realised that my Cheshire collimator + the translucent plastic end cap was perfect for the job!

Awesome to find something you already have to do the job!

Fantastic idea.. I'm off to have a rummage about my astronomy spares and make one of these.. I have a spare finder scope I can use, once I remove the lenses.. liked and subscribed...
