Not sure its really a job for most biologists. I appreciate Ruths dedication, rest in peace. Lots of marine biologists dont make a living at it. They rely on other jobs or patrons to survive. Global climate change is unstoppable no matter what you think causes it. Cousteaux was incredible, but he was more of an inventor, engineer and promoter than anything else. Lots of things that are going in technology are even more of a threat than "greenhouse gases". Lithium batteries pose one of the greatest threats to human life and nature. Pollution from lithium battery industry (mining, manufacturing and improper disposal) will contaminate ground water eventually, killing people and wildlife worldwide. Stop buying devices with lithium battery tech, or at the very least stop buying a new phone every year. Also, make sure you can dispose of lithium batteries properly (if possible)

Global climate change is absolutely stoppable, assuming you accept that it's anthropogenic. Every human activity has some impact on the ecosystem, because we are part of the same ecosystem. Most of our growth as a species has led to degradation of this system but there are varying degrees of impact. Resource extraction takes its toll but always try and consider the scale when balancing options. Climate change from greenhouse gases, the majority of which are CO2 driven, is absolutely something we have to stop. The final affect of this massive warming experiment we are taking are unknown, but corals are among the ecosystems we are loosing as a result. Look, we will indeed stop burning fossil fuels because they are a nonrenewable resource. But will we stop of our own will, by embracing carbon neutral technologies? Or will we let the system crash down around us. And as Dr. gates said, if you want to be a marine biologist just keep walking in that direction no matter who tells you you can't.
