Thank you so much for watching :) What do you use for filling your pin cushions? I would love to try some new options next time!

You must try crushed walnut or almond shells. It keeps the pin sharp and prevents them from rusting.

I use batting scraps, which I save up just for projects like this.

I love crushed walnut shells! (The weight is so nice, so that the pincushion doesn't go flying off the table while I'm sewing.)

I love to make pincushions with little scraps! I usually push asome fiberfill into the corners, it fills them out nicely. I use crushed walnuts and a smidge of dried lavender if I have it to finishing filling. Oh, and bit of fiberfill where you close it up, that way no walnut shells work their way out between your hand stitches. This pincushion is so cute with the trim! Thanks for a fun idea. I always enjoy your videos!

I love your videos! I used crushed walnut shells in my first one and it had some tiny bugs in it after a year of use. Next one was filler like you used and sand added. I think batting scraps would work, liked the weight of the sand, though, very much and it sharpens and cleans the pins well. DIY stores sell big bags of sand cheap, too!!

Joan Elkins oh really? Thanks for sharing. I didn’t know. I made some pin cushions with crushed corn. So i know what is gonna happen now. Wow i am so disappointed. I will use sand next batch i make.

Sew cute! Love your energy and creativeness! I'm on a pincushion phase right now lol .thank you for the inspiration. I use batting but am looking into the crushed walnuts. My only worry is allergies if I have people over or I take my pin cushion to a class.

Thank you!! Ah allergies, Yes never thought about that. Will ask someone I know who has allergies if that would be a problem. How did your pincushion turn out?

I make book covers, pin cushions, mug rugs, all for little gifts. My favourite scrap is saved selvedges from all the fabrics! I stuff a little more as the pins sometimes go through stuffing and I get stabbed, I use up my old ironing board wadding...it's really thick, but I will try sand next time as one of your followers put below!

Yes I'm also going to try sand next time!

I like the crushed walnut shells, weight works great too. I get my crushed walnut shells from a pet company. It's used in lizard tanks, I think. Much more reasonable price wise, plus comes in 10-20lb bags, $14-$28. Hope this helps from Tombstone, AZ USA.

You are always a joy to watch. Cute project. I see several ladies using sawdust in their tiny pillows on Flosstube.. Wonder if that would do when needles and pins are involved? I've only ever used polyfil.

I’ve used crushed walnuts and polyvinyl. But I prefer emery sand. It gives the pincushions weight so they sit nicer.

Sand sound nice indeed! Will try that next time to give my pincushion a bit more weight.

You are adorable. I use crushed walnut shells (sharpens pins and needles) that I purchased on Amazon. People also use Lizard Litter that I believe can be purchased at pet stores.

@herlindalabrecque41896 жыл бұрын
I use emory mineral sand to fill my pincushions. The sand has an extra fine grit Because of this characteristic the pincushion must be lined in a separate pouch of very tightly woven fabric that is sewn vey securely so as not to let the sand escape. Scrap silk works well. I fill mine in a square food container so as to catch any of the escaping sand. Now you can use any closely woven fabric to complete the project. Emory mineral sand can be ordered through Amazon. It retails for about $15.00/pound.

You're such a cutie, Irene. I love your fearless attitude about designing and creating. I like to use wool batting scraps to fill pin cushions. If you want some weight to hold them down a bit, you could add the walnut shells or bird gravel (like for caged birds like parakeets.) If it's small enough, I like to use emery granules. It's so much fun to see what you come up with in each video.
@Sugaridoo6 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Haha yess, I love (trying) to be fearless. It can so hold us back when we keep pondering over (design) choices. So when in doubt, just make a decision :) Wool batting scraps sound like a good use in pincushions. And next time I indeed want to use something to give it more weight. So happy that you love the videos.

Hi Sugaridoo! My question is a bit off topic to this particular video but I hope you can help me: I want to replace my needle on my sewing machine but it is not coming out even though I fully unscrewed the needle bar clamp. Any help?
@Sugaridoo6 жыл бұрын
Hi Joode, hmm is your needle still stuck? Are you sure it's the needle clamp you've unscrewed? I once unscrewed the clamp of the presser foot and thought my needle was stuck.. Oops! Otherwise, I can''t really think of something else then gently gripping it with something and wiggling it a bit.
