Using the node as a plug for the slow wind chamber...of course. This has been my major problem of the last few days, trying to cut wooden plugs for large bamboo with literally only a pocket knife as a tool for various flute types.Thank you.

My dad taught me on a hammer that had his family name embossed into the metal on the neck of it. Had a lot of steel workers in the family! 🙂

Hey, I'm making a flute that's only in tune with itself. Would you mind providing the proportions of diameter to hole spacing?

Careful with that Gerber. I nearly cut the end digit of my ring finger off with that model. It's capable of taking and holding one truly wicked edge. Working on my own flute now - with a different knife ;-)

You should see some of our videos that I use planners, routers and table saws on! They are so much sharper and much more unforgiving than my pocket knife! Thanks for watching!

You have a great spirit. Can one make a G flute using an A as the template and just cut the shaft longer?
@BlueBearFlutes
@BlueBearFlutes 9 жыл бұрын
Adruma victoria Thank you for your kind words. You can use the a pattern to make a G. Here's how: Slide the entire fingering measurements for the A away from the mouthpiece area by 2 diameters of the material being used. Likewise cut the flute 2 diameters longer.

Wilson, it really depends on the flute maker. There really is no set rule for the measurements, however a good rule of thumb would be: 1/2" diameter has 3/16" sound holes. 3/4" diameter flute has 1/4" sound holes, 1" diameter has 5/16". The distance between the air supply hole and sound hole are varying depending on the maker.

Hey there!! Thank you so much for your awesome videos! I am making a bamboo flute with the help of them and thought I did everything perfect... until all was finished and it didn't make any sound at all :( I have been trying to figure it out for a couple days and just realized I knocked out BOTH nodes in the bamboo... uggggg. My flute is so beautiful and cool, I'd hate to start all over.... is there anything I can use or do to save it??

Sondra Todd You'll have to knock the links out except for the one you need to make the sound area. Use anything from a metal rod to an arrow shaft. Be careful not to crack it. It should work fine. If you want better materials please see my friends website: www.fluteblank.com

Also I live in Tennessee and I do not think we have any of these river canes around or close to our rivers here.. I have been to some close to me fishing and target practicing here or no bamboo here..I checked on the web site you sent but the price is within my reach but the shipping makes them alittle pricey for me

Sondra, I lived in Tennessee for a few years and found a lot of River Cane while living there. There was a Kayaking club that had perfect indigenous material for flute making. Ask around, you may be surprised at what you can find.

Did you really make the flute with just a knife and a hacksaw?I was thinking that you made one on the side and pulled that one out at the end..lol..Sorry But I use to do detective work in a big city and I saw it all..But anyway that was a pretty nice flute though..
