This is the perfect net making video. I really don't care about nets, or their manufacture but the editing, timing, music were so engaging, I stayed for the whole damn thing.That's not even mentioning all the wholesome comments. Great work on your content and the community you built. Congrats.

@@blu.draigon good luck!, how did it go! I recently put a wooden bunk bed up for my kids in their room. I went here to learn how to make a net, now that i do, i will go and buy at home depot and attach it on the top bunk and the ceiling as a safety net. It will go inward slope so my kids dont climb it rather than straight down or farther out.

One of my favorite phrases is good, good. I love these types of fairly simple and very pedagogical presentations, because just as we find amounts of information that are not edifying for a healthy life and growth, we can also find these ideas that can be used for many circumstances. In particular, I was looking for information about it to cover the things that I need to carry in my bicycle basket. So I salute these good deeds, thank you, thank you 1000 for taking time, the kind that generally almost never is left over, but with patience and vocation there will always be a Christian who has his knowledge to make it known without pettiness to the world, especially to those of us who lack the skills and knowledge for this type of craftsmanship. God bless you greatly. From the plains of southern Venezuela, on a bank of the Apure River, from the town of San Fernando, a fraternal hug. Blessings. Note: I appreciate my apologies for my bad English...

About to attempt a net for the top of a handmade bunk bed so I feel safer with my 8yr old up top as I she just turned 8 and I am allowing it (she is petite and wiggles a lot so she needs to be away from little brother now). Looked at a few videos and none were what I was wanting but this is close so I am going to try it. Ty!

For example if i want the net to be 7’6” tall how long are the runs. Many variables, more knots more rope etc… Is there a “rule of thumb?”

So using your figures, each strand should be 4.8x as long as you want the net to be "deep", right? So like if you want the net to be 100 cm deep, you make each strand 4.8 metres? Then each strand effectively makes two strands of 2.4 metres each, and by the time each of those has gone left and right all those times, and made all the knots, it comes out at 1m worth of net? I want to make a net that's 2.5m deep. I have 100m of cord and I want to work out how long I can make it, ie how many strands I can make.
@JonathanJanis
@JonathanJanis Жыл бұрын
have you tested this? did it come out like that? this is super useful info.
@tostare
@tostare Жыл бұрын
@@JonathanJanis Not very scientifically, but i think it's a good ballpark figure. I used that calculation to work out how much cord i needed to buy, but then when it came to it I thought "I'd better overestimate just in case" and made each hanging strand much longer than i thought it needed to be. Then at the end I had loads left on each strand but I never thought to measure how much was left and see how it compared to my calculations. I do remember that (with my cord) each knot used 6cm of cord, so you can work it out as a series of right angled zigzags, where every 'corner' uses an extra 6cm.
@tostare
@tostare Жыл бұрын
btw it took a really long time to do, much longer than the video! Just practise i guess, though mine was bigger, probably 2m x 2.5m.

@marknahabedian1803 3 жыл бұрын
You can decide on the dimensions of your net and the lengths of the sides of each square. You then need to figure out how much cord goes in to each knot. The way knitters do thus us by knitting a gauge swatch. Knit a number of stitches across and a number of rows down, measure the size of your swatch to get stitches per inch in each direction. If you want to know how much yarn was used you can unravel and measure. It's too much work to unravel netting. You could tie a single knot, use a marker to mark where each strand leaves the knot, untie the knot, and measure between marks to see how much cord goes in to a knot on each strand. I think his knit us symmetric, so those measurements should be the same, to within marking and measurement accuracy.

Most Paracord knots for nets I've seen tend to slip. Do these knots tend to slip or get loose? I've had really bad luck with the modified sheet bend used so often in net making. There is a lock-knot which is torturous to tie but holds really well but it's used in the standard net making process using a gauge and a shuttle.. I think the simplest knot which is also unlikely to slip is the simple overhand knot although it may require more cord. If this knot doesn't slip or get loose once tightened, then this may be the best overall method I've seen yet. Is there a method to use a gauge to make sure each mesh is uniform in size? I also really like the modified larks head knots at the top, they keep cord from slipping through!
@stevenrobertson4470
@stevenrobertson4470 3 жыл бұрын
Sounds like a good idea, you're probably a lot better at that than I would be. I was going to try using a gauge, but I think I'll try your finger method first and see how it goes!
