Oh boy this was a long time in the making! I have been wanting to make a new palette for my paints for the longest of times. Covid made this extra had because during that time and a short time afterwards polymer clay was hard to find! So when I spotted this 8lb box I had to get it.
If you have any questions about this video please leave it down in the comments and I’ll try to answer it as best I can.
If you enjoy this video please go and check out my other work, I don’t just make palettes, I also paint. the easiest way to do that is to go into my playlists! i try to keep things organized.
Enjoy!

"I thought I had a plan....." This is what makes the Sculpey such an excellent choice for this.

It never occurred to me to make my own palette with Scupley - - ceramic made ones can be so expensive. This is genius. Thank you. :)

Running the PC through a CLAY ONLY manual pasta machine is an option but you may get black marks all over the clay, happened to me with 2 pasta machines. Rolling it out like you did is probably the best way. I really like your idea!

what a great idea, sort of looks like porcelain. i didn't realize that sculpy glaze was water resistant!

Yes! And it holds up very well, the only downside to using this is that it stains, but a magic eraser cleans it off awesome.

@@JNDS.Creates I have some (Sculpy sealer) and am going to do a glaze/no glaze experiment. PC after baked is plastic so by default waterproof but I want to test it out. Staining doesn’t bother me and the magic eraser idea is 👍🏻👍🏻.

Acetone and rub on air bubble lumps removes them 👌 love this idea I made some before and coated with resin which looked awesome but paints stick to it so I have to clean the palette with acetone. I’m looking for a better ideas why I’m here 😁😍

These ones stain pretty quick, every so often I take the magic eraser to them and cleans them up ok. I’m pleased with how the paint interacts on its surface. And ya those dang bubbles, I can never see them before the bake process and they always show up, in the end some of them can be useful to keep paint segregated lol.

the glaze does not require baking, its just paint it on and let it dry.

I'm not entirely sure if the sculpey glaze is water proof, since it says it can be washed with water and soap on the packaging. I think what you did is fine, just I would have sealed it with thin coats of epoxy resin instead.
@JNDS.Creates
@JNDS.Creates 7 ай бұрын
The glaze on my original has lasted 3 years, I use a Mr clean magic eraser to clean every so often and it’s held up well. The biggest issue is staining. After three years it did wear in some areas, a solid clean and multi coat reglaze would be enough to restore it. I currently don’t own epoxy resin but would love to work with it one day.
@charlottesmom
@charlottesmom 5 ай бұрын
I’ve heard the sealer can deteriorate if exposed to water long term, I’m going to craft a glazed one and a non glazed to see what is better. Polymer clay is by nature waterproof as is (after baking) so it should be fine by itself.

@@elylioney6390 ya they will get stained. Blue is the biggest culprit. And my oldest one (4 years old) is still in great condition other than the staining. A magic eraser works really well but I needed the new design of this one to fit my full colour palette.

Are you a new artist? Some of your paintings look very juvenile. Most professional artists don’t need a lot of colors.

Hey thanks for commenting. Typically one of my paintings will use 2-5 colours. I’ve been painting for 10 years. my illustrations are much more whimsical and composed from imagination vs let’s say pet portraits or landscapes I’ve done, KZbin isn’t the best representation of the extent of my work. If it’s not your thing that’s cool. Just a strange thing to comment on a palette video.

@@JNDS.Creates your pallets are genius! Sorry, I messed up on comment I meant juvenile (as for children illustration) sometime my English not so great. I do oil painting and use very few colors most I mix myself. Old way I think.
