Thank you. It's a 30min polyurethane glue. I think the brand I was using there was Everbuild.

Really enjoyed your video, lovely workmanship and thanks for sharing with us! I have 2 questions: Did you glue and clamp the door, drive thr tennon wedges in and then release the pressure on the clamps before the glue dried? Is this the done thing? And second: What size/what angle are the wedges you use? Thanks in advance for the advice, Maurice (carpenter who is trying to teach himself Joinery)

Hi Maurice. Yes, wedging the joints, then releasing the clamps, is a thing. In the years before PU "5 minute" glues, urea formaldehyde resin was used to glue exterior joinery, and before that, thick, lead based paint. Both took hours (or days) to dry, and in a busy shop, you'd soon run out of clamps. In my case, it saves having to lift the door off the bench on my own, with the clamps attached. As for the wedges, I've never taken much notice of an angle as such. My wedges are made from the rejected piece of tenon, cut away to form the haunch. This defines their length, and I make the taper around 8mm to nothing. Hope this makes sense. All the best. Matt.

Hi John. Sorry for the late reply. Only just spotted your comment. I make the vast majority of the mouldings I use. I will be doing a video in the near future on how I grind cutters and run sections of custom mouldings. Thanks for watching 👍🏼

Hi, great video, did you use the tricoya boards? And what if any clearance did you leave for expansion ( between boards and grooves in styles) 2 t 3 mm?

Awesome work, glad I clicked the link on Mafell page 👍🏻 What method did you use for stopping weather coming through on the floor, is there a brush in the door or something? Also, why did you glue the beading profiles together for one side but then fix the other side in individually? Asking because I always want to improve. Amazing work.

Hi aneur2008. These doors are actually on a vestibule, and secondary to the main entry door to the house, so weather ingress isn't too much of a worry. The original doors had nothing at all to stop water ingress under the doors, not even a weather board. The customer has added a tiled floor to the vestibule, which has made a natural upstand under the doors, and I've added a weather board to the doors. We decided against brush strips under the door to avoid scratching the tiles. I pre assemble the bolection moulds on the outside of the doors, because it's difficult to mark and cut an exact fit on each piece, due to the rebate on the back. It's also hard to "pop" the big mouldings in place to get a tight joint. With the panel moulds on the inside, it's easy enough and quicker to cut and fit them straight to the door.

Brilliant video , great doors . What glue did you use to hold the door together ? Did you fit as well ?

Hi Roger. Primarily I used a 30 minute polyurethane glue on this job. When using Accoya, there's a very limited choice when it comes to adhesives. The mouldings were glued with Titebond 3, but that can only be used in "supported applications" (pinned in this case). Yes, I fitted the doors. I actually went and pre-hung them before all the mouldings and finish were applied, which made the final fitting very straight forward. I took a time-lapse video of the pre-hanging, but forgot to include it in the final edit of this video 🤦🏼‍♂️

@@TheJoineryWorkshop thank you , lovely workshop all that big heavy engineered kit. Have you built it up from scratch over time ?
@TheJoineryWorkshop
@TheJoineryWorkshop 2 жыл бұрын
@@rogerbean393 I certainly have. The kit I have now, comes from 20 years of collecting. Most of the big machines range from 40 to 90 years old. Maybe not as "safe" as modern alternatives, but built to last, and no unnecessary electronics or gizmos to let you down when you can least afford it.

Hi, brilliant video, and thanks for sharing. It's nice to see traditional joinery at It's best. I love the old heavy machines built to last and, as you say and rarely let you down. I have a few questions if I may. How do you find the quality of Accoya and especially It's stability. How did you ease the mortices for the wedges. Have you been tempted to use dominoes instead of M &T? Did you use stainless steel pins for the bolection mould? I look forward to your next video. Thanks again.
