Making a Plane-Setting Hammer | DIY Hand Tools

In this video I work on making a prototype plane-setting hammer / adjustment hammer from brass and curly maple. Hopefully, the first of many hammers to come. The goal for this version was to test with the hammer's design and figure out how to build it with the tools that I have on hand. The next steps are to refine the details and construction process for future versions.
Plane-setting hammers are used to adjust hand planes, primarily wooden hand planes. However, they can be used to laterally adjust the blades on metal hand planes. Additionally, these types of hammers can be used to make precisely adjust tools or get material placed exactly where you need it for machining operations.

What is that rattling sound when you're using the spoke shave? Something loose on the tool?

I think itbis the adjustment knobs. If they are not tight to the blade they can rattle slightly. I believe the microphone is making it sound more pronounced than it is in real life.

@@EricMeyerMaker gotcha. I get a similar sound sometimes with my router plane even when it's locked off... always makes me paranoid that with the slack present that it's more likely to slip. The brass wedge was a nice touch 👍
