Fantastic video. Back in 1984 I built several chairs like these. I used a chapter on chair making that I found in the Foxfire Book volume 1 as a guide. Several years later I added rockers to one of them and made a rocking chair. I still have that chair and I'm watch this while sitting in it. Keep the great videos coming, your an inspiration to a lot of people.

Opening segment reminds me of my early childhood when my dad worked for the forest service in Colorado. He kept me busy when I went with him by giving me a hatchet and having me cut up the branches. I still have that hatchet almost fifty years later.
@ricos14972 жыл бұрын
I've got the same hatchet I had as a youngster too. Had to make a new handle a few years back, and the head was in bad condition so I had to replace it. Otherwise, it's still going strong after all those years.

A dose of reality and sanity. Thank you! What is so fascinating to me is that, instead of dominating the materials you use, one has the feeling that you are gently and respectfully persuading the wood to fit into place, from start to finish in every project. It is actually quite remarkable. I don’t think I have seen another craftsman working quite like you do. You get better and better with each video. If that were even possible. (As an aside, I am the son of a 98-year-old cabinet maker. Five generations of wood workers.)

- Good evening: It's been two years now that I've been staring in amazement at Mr. Chickadee's various woodwork. I think that only the mastery of the Japanese carpenters who practice the craft of Ishitani furniture is comparable. Item. more: they use sophisticated power tools. Instead our hero remains in the tradition of S. XIX. - It is really remarkable. Thank you for even giving us an Ethics class in a world as chaotic as the one we are experiencing.

Awesome!!! My great great grandfather did that for a living in central Ky. My grandma remembered he had a lathe with a big wheel and the grandkids would have to take turns turning the wheel for him. A feller told us about seeing him coming out of the knobs where he lived with a bunch of chairs on his back headed to the main highway to sell his chairs. I’ve got a good dining chair and I have three rockers that needs restored. Good chairs of his, at estate sales, bring hundreds of dollars these days. Awesome seeing you build one similar to the way he did. From log to sitting chair. Awesome!

This was great. Admirable workmanship. Just the sights and sounds. Hand tools. Beautiful implementation. Great stuff. Kudos. I don't know exactly why but I find it irritating boarding on aggravating to watch self professed, silver spoon, trust fund "wood worker" channels that use $50k of power tools, wearing $1000 dust masks, go through $100 in sandung discs, and take an exotic live edge old growth stump disc, and gallons and gallons and gallons of epoxy to "create" some stucturally deficient, purely decorative, highly impractical, heavy frankenstein melding of epoxy and wood coffee table for even more bourgeois, fashionesta, green fetishistic consumerist clients.
