NOTE: I have contacted SOLO and they apologized that this kit does not come with a MAPLE neck any more. Their supplier changed it sometime before I had purchased the kit. The SOLO site has been updated and it no longer says it is a maple neck.

It's still a really nice looking neck. Definitely worthy of your time investment. Great pickups too! I swear by Seymour Duncan as my all-time favorites! This is basically what I did to my Epiphone Les Paul along with a roller bridge and d'addario locking tuners. I think you'll genuinely enjoy it when your finished! You can buff out those scratches with Meguires. You shouldn't have to but it'll work nice. LMAO "WOW it's relicing all by itself"! That one killed me hahaha.

Dr. Danny, I feel like we'd be good friends if we knew each other. I wish you worked in the ER at my local hospital, I'd make it a point to only get hurt or sick when you're on duty. Enjoying this build!

I was going to say that neck doesn't look like maple. It looks like some sort of Mahogany equivalent (like Okume or thereabouts). The SD59's are a great choice. I've had an uncovered SD59 I bought during the late 80's/early 90s that I still have and it's been in multiple guitars over the years. It's pretty much what I judge all other pickups to. BTW Danny it might pay to look into get a hole reamer. They're great for these types of jobs where a drill bit might chip the paint and you only want to slightly enlarge a hole.

The guitar looks like it's coming together really well, and it meets your specifications. Looking forward to seeing it completed and hearing how it sounds. Good luck!

Very good effort for the 1st time. Next time, I suggest you use shielding foil in the cavities prior to assembly. It makes a difference even with humbuckers. Also, always tin all your wiring prior to soldering and sand [or dremel} the pots {and tin} where you're going to solder it. This will help prevent cold solder joints/noise/ and crackle down the road. The mahogany neck is actually more authentic for that type of guitar. It's now basically a Gibson Les Paul but better for much less. Very good "Let's piss off Gibson" kit.

I bought a Firefly and upgraded the crap out of it. The headstock logo was crooked.. so I sanded it off and put a gibson logo on.. I don't care it is my guitar! I might use a coping saw and really make it Play Authentic! I love building my own guitars. Gonna do a body from scratch soon!

I think you have chosen the best way of having a dream guitar without paying crazy prices. Even if you find an excellent luthier, there is no certainty that the guitar they make will be what you expected. I was lucky when i ordered my custom spec Strat from a highly respected luthier here in the UK, it was all that i could have asked for. That was after Fenders overhyped Custom Shop badly let me down. You have opened up many peoples eyes to the way the big names charge way too much for badly made guitars. I can't wait to see how your guitar sounds when fully finished.🙂👍

I’m not a fan of relic’ing guitars, but if you are, ask your neighbor if you can borrow their cat. But some catnip on the body. Then presto Authentic feline relic’ing! 😂 Btw, StewMac sells a three prong jack connector. That insures you have a better connection when you plug the guitar in. Fantastic idea for the wind tunnel. The cream plate is cool.

Motorcycle Mark, they each have their good points. Nice to have options. No wrong answer on this one, either ways sounds and sustains fine as long as that joint is solid and fits right.

You love the word 'premium'... What does that mean to you, precisely..? Also, that neck is mahogany. Can tell by the color and grain.

@@fzdreaddy Solo guitar kit. The wood is normal guitar woods, nothing like the premium wood library of PRS. The premium part of my build is the components used. I myself believe that wood, as long as it is proper, is the same functionality of any of that fancy smancy woods.
@fzdreaddy
@fzdreaddy 2 жыл бұрын
@@guitarhobbywithdannythemedic I agree with you... But it's not 'just wood'.. You yourself, criticized the finish by saying "wow guys, so authentic!" That was hilarious by the way. I don't want to come of wrong... But the finish, carving, fretting, and especially they entire construction of the neck is very crucial. This is why we pay for what I WOULD call a 'premium guitar'. I even think PRS SE's are 'premium' except for some occasional electronic parts. That said, I am not familiar with the brand you named. I just hope the construction is 'premium' enough for you in the end, because you seem VERY concerned. Usually, I would tell someone as bent on premium as you are to go with PRS, high end Fender, Suhr, or maybe even Parker. I have a Gibson, and you can bet that it's had a headstock repair... It was ridiculous how easily that guitar broke. It was well fixed, and I still love it... But, screw Gibson. I love the Gibson hate...LOL.. I just hope your guitar comes out properly 'premium'! I'll be watching!! 👍✌️🎸
