They have to make it different to avoid litigation. It doesn’t bother me at all. The nib they take off will make the corner of the headstock more resistant to severe chips or breaks there. In fact it doesn’t bother me so much that I just ordered an Eastman

I’d argue that a low end Gibson les paul is overall higher quality than an epiphone or something off brand

@ well, yes, Gibson has shitty quality control, but I’m talking about about an actually good one.

Well apparently alot of people want guitars with a relic look . It's everywhere now . Coolest cars are barn finds with patina . Firearms with the well worn finish are also desired . Don't forget about clothing also . Personally I'd never buy jeans with holes and thread bare either but alot of people do . In the Norlin era of Gibson they started using plasticier in the finish . They really don't check like guitars of the earlier periods . New isn't always better . Car finishes today are really thin . It doesn't take much to get down to the metal . All in the name of weight savings for more mpg . Guess it's all in what you like .

Years ago the only people buying these things were pro and semi pro musicians, Today Everybody is a rock star. Hendrix played off the wall strats. Now all this overpriced crap is for guys that know 3 or 4 chords and has some money to blow. Remember, today everyone is a rockstar in the dope show.KZbin is full of guys that get free gear to 'review' but cant play for shit. They get out the microscope and criticize how many atoms are vibrating around the strap lock. They require the utmost perfection while not knowing what to do with it. It;s become a joke.

Just got a SB58tv with lollar p90 in neck and imperial humbucker. I love Gibsons but this Eastman is the best single cut LP you can buy for the money, also i just compared my head stock to my Gibson head stock and to my eoiphone inspired by gibson 1955 les paul custom and the Eastmans head stock is way more gibson thdn Epiphone, its really close and im surprised they havent tried sueing.

I've started buying chibsons off aliexpress, the higher the price went the dream of owning a real Gibson went with it, I have no regret buying these Chinese knock offs, after trying several different budget brands of LPs, I finally broke down and bought a fake,now I own two more,an Angus Young SG with lightning bolt inlays, which I would never be able to afford a real one, my first purchase was a standard cherry burst LP, and I just recently got a teal blue quilt top custom LP, it was the most expensive $252 delivered my two LPs $226 can't beat the price or the quality,sound & looks, china has really stepped up their game,these guitars are getting better and better,no longer need to spend thousands on a painted piece of wood, that you can't see any way, with a few upgrades these Chibsons come the closest in feel to the guitars they are trying to copy, your hands will thank you for buying one.

"Fan Boys" won't touch it if it doesn't say Gibson or Fender on the headstock.
@Somenite2 ай бұрын
Doesn't seem like the Chibson/Chender fan boys will either. The vast majority of the people buying the knockoff not only want the logo but also the parts to try and pass for legit. Early on the Chibsons were coming in with three screw truss rod covers and slotted screw bridge adjustment. both completely functional. Some of the buyers actually spent the time/money to replace the bridge and the knockoff community sought out manufacturers willing to do better fakes with more Gibson like parts. I've even seen people trying to sell fake certificates of authenticity for people to write in their Chibson/Chender numbers.

Can't compare an American made guitar to an import. Manufacturing in the US is much more expensive because of labor costs and regulations such as environmental and workplace safety laws. A fair comparison is a Gibson to another American made instrument. Compare the lowest American made strat which is the Performer which retails at $1250. It is a thin alder body with dot inlays, a poly finish, no binding at all and a bolt on neck. The LP modern lite mentioned in this video retails for $1500 and has a nitro finish and set neck construction. Both of those feature add quite a bit to manufacturing as dry time/buffing is required during assembly which isn't for poly. You also have environmental laws in play for nitrocellulose paint. The modern lite is also made of Mahogany which is pricier than alder. Looking at the LP studio at $1600, you are also getting the neck binding, block inlays and ticket Mahogany with a maple cap. Take a look at the gig bags the guitars come with and you'll see the ones with the Gibsons are much nicer than the Fender Performers bag. Is the jump up to a LP standard from a studio worth it. probably not. However, the same argument could be made for any guitar manufacturer. They always have models where you pay too much for a little extra bling or an artists name on the model.
@guitarhobbywithdannythemedic2 ай бұрын
ok how about this: you take your guitar to a luthier in the USA, please put a binding on the body thank you. will it be $1000 ?
@Somenite2 ай бұрын
@@guitarhobbywithdannythemedic If you're talking about putting binding on an existing Studio, it would cost you $1000 or more because refinishing would likely be necessary along with the binding work. I think what you're getting at though is the difference in cost between a studio and standard not being worth it. With the standard, you are getting the binding, a higher grade maple top in most cases, inlayed Gibson logo and burstbuckers versus 490 pickup set. Probably not worth the 1K difference in price. However, higher end models in any line generally see a big drop off in value like that as they start to add little bling features that people with money will spend on.
@marcocastellanos1529Ай бұрын
You Def understand the cost of Manufacturing. Just watched the JHS video where he describes the true cost of making pedals. I think that same logic would apply to guitars. I'm not a gibson guy. Or gibson apologist. Just a realist. I prefer to play MIM fenders cause as you stated, to me, the diminishing returns starts after the player plus series. I'll give it to gibson on the new studio. I do think they priced accordingly.

I paid 650€ for my Studio in 2011. Now its like what 300% more expensive ? Can't be inflation tho since I never heard inflation has reached such levels. Smells like corporate greed. I just used a inflation calculator which suggests the same guitar should cost 900€ now not double that.

I bought a brand new Gibson SG with original PAF humbuckers in 1973 for $375.00. Adjusted to today, that would be $2,658.75. In 1973 they made them right. Everything was done to perfection. The lowest action of any guitar with zero fret buzz I've ever owned out of the box. A shredders dream. I'll never buy a new or used Gibson today. Both Ibanez and Schecter among many others make much better instruments also with better quality. Also, it's a crapshoot on any new Les Paul that your headstock may break off. Yet they refuse to improve it which would be so easy.

Maybe Fender wiil sponsor you
@Somenite3 ай бұрын
Maybe it's just me, but I consider Fender more overpriced than Gibson. For Fender, the lowest priced American strat is the Performer for $1250 compared to the LP Studio for $1600. For that $350 difference, Gibson is giving you neck binding, block inlays, nitro finish, set neck construction and a guitar made out of a thick piece of mahogany with a maple cap. Not saying any of that stuff is better but from a materials/manufacturing cost it's all far more expensive than doing a guitar made out of a thinner piece of alder with no binding, a bolt on neck, poly finish and dot inlays. I mean the nitro alone is huge from an overhead standpoint because of environmental laws as well as the application requiring multiple coats with buffing and dry time in between.

I enjoy watching people fan out over getting their gibsons, and I think they are great guitars. I don't have an affinity towards the old greats who used them (i'm a millennial), so maybe I view the brand more objectively. I can't justify buying a brand new one, the pricing doesn't make sense in comparison to would you could get for that money.
