Making a S10 Gas Mask Safe for Airsoft

Right then you orrible lot this week on Burntwolf airsoft im going to be showing you how to make a Gas mask safe for air soft.In this video i will be focusing on the UK s10 gas mask used by the uk in the 80's and 90's its a cheap and easy to get hold of gas mask and you can pick one up for between £10 and £20 at any decent army surplus store.
Gas masks are a awesome way to finish off a airsoft load out and are one of the few ways to make a load out look complete without face and eye pro ruining the effect. Sadly tho the Acrylic lenses that these masks come with are not safe for airsoft and you will have to replace them so that they dont crack when shot.
The whole process is a simple one if a little fiddly the main thing your going to need is some replacement poly-carbonate lenses you can get two types that will make your gas mask safe
Inner lenses,These are cheaper only costing £8 but require abit more faff. Theres a link below to a Ebay shop below for these

And then theres outers.Outers are abit more expensive,costing £24 but i recommend these as there much easier to install on your s10 gas mask.Theres another link below to the same Ebay seller that makes these to

once you've replaced the lenses,id recommend taking the filter material out of the mask this comes out easily but you will need to be careful and neat when cutting the filter open as your going to want to put these back together again.
Once the inside of the filters removed simply put the top back on and attach with electrical tape.
And there you have it,one airsoft safe and skirmish able gas mask!Now you can run around the airsoft field sweating buckets looking like a big scary gimp type person!

Maybe it is batter to leave it alone, it contains a bit of chromium, it is not enough to do anything as long as it is left alone so i would not advise to free it trying to remove irlt

Possibly thing is with things like that a bit of exposure is not likely to cause harm,but if you where doing it all days it would have some effect im sure in the long run

I've always wondered how to "safety" an S10. I've done up a Russian GP-5 and PMK-1, a German M65, and a Swiss SM-74. The Swiss mask is exceptionally easy to safety; the lens retaining rings simply unscrew.

Old Russian filters can contain asbestos; I've heard that the coffee can sized filters are almost definite. The green "normal" shaped ones are iffy if you have older ones. The newer ones with a slope near the threads are safe. As for converting, the PMK was the hardest, no doubt. The lenses have a tension band around them, which takes a lot of fiddling. The GP and M65 have crimped tabs on their metal retaining rings, so they're not too hard to pry open with a screwdriver, and then reseal with pliers.

Nah, they're sturdy as long as you don't bend them too far. And you only really have to get them by around 30-40 degrees.

Also just noticed that this is the exact same gas mask that the guy in the standard CS:GO main menu is using (complete with navy blue uniform and matching all blue UK patch). The adapted plain lens (to make it impact resistant) ruin a bit of the convex/bubble shaped lens effect of the original.

Stuff from China is around 2 weeks, and then it can take from 3 to 6 months for them to check if it has Anthrax or is a weapon of mass destruction or to scratch their balls or something. Will very likely incur in that tax, but it will be totally worth it. The tax is new, btw, and consumer rights is coming to get them about it. Less than two weeks ago they've announced effective immediately, retroactively.

Instead of using a screwdriver to remove the ring holding the lens implace push on the back of the lens and the lens comes out with the ring so no marks on the lens holders

Don’t use black electrical tape, use a band of either red or blue tape and it will hold with the 80’s sas look I’m sure people are doing this for since the respirators and mags for each assault team are marked this way

Cool. For replacing the original lenses (rather than adding outers) would it help to dunk them in some hot water to soften the retaining rings once you’ve popped them out and make them easier to remove from the lenses without damage?

This video may be 3 years old but a question remains in me, Would a airsoft BB be able to damage or break the Latex Mask or the frontal plastic round thing on a s10?

It wont go through the latex,unless its on deaths door and cracking in which case be hard to put on,the rim it can crack.Iv heard of that happening.However it wouldnt just fall out as there are two bits to it and its a nightmare to get in and out

You will have to really double check this,but with the REAL m50 some of them have lenses that MAY be okay straight off the bat.Im not sure on the replica versions sorry bud,I'm not 100% on the m50,if you ask the person with the pinned post he might know as he converts them as a hobby

Most of the time it wont fog because of the tisso tube system when you breath in air some of it goes up to the lenses to de-fog them

The fm12 comes woth polycarbonate lenses, and it says they are impact rated, but i dont want to test it out as i dont want to ruin the lenses if they arent safe. Are they safe for airsoft?

Should be fine to just clean out a used filter as long as you take all the charcoal and things like that out and give it a good wash.When it comes to getting rid of used one's just put them in the bin,the charcoal would be holding onto all the nasty stuff id imagin

Im using a british fm12 gas mask, I want to know what type of filter you use to hollow out, I'm pulling a resident evil hunk load out, my NATO Israeli Style NBC 40mm Gas Mask Filter can't be popped open

was the S10 filter it comes with you cant pop it open you have to cut round the edge carefully that exposes the paper,then under that there is the charcoal layer,take all of that out,wash it out and then put the cap that was cut back off using black electrical tape.This chaps load out is a hulk load out.Use a very sharpe knife be carefull and kinda follow the seam it should leave a nice finish

Bb's wont have a chance of piercing the rubber bud,just make sure you check the lense more than anything.Not sure of the specs for the USA masks.Polycarb lenses are normally ok depending on the thickness

I've been looking for a gas mask with full peripheral, found a few but nothing directly for airsoft which was expected. I have found a few Russian gas masks that supposedly used poly carbonate, if that is so would they be safe to use or not? Really want the full peripheral ones rather than eye holes, thanks.
