Quickie trick for getting two items to match, like your curved tops, when you can't use a fastener ( because it damages the surface of the part ). Stick the parts together with double stick tape, cut and shape as needed, then separate with a putty knife. Scrape the tape remnants off and ...... Bob's your uncle. Yes, Rick I paid my way through college as a cabinet maker and draftsman for the first year or so........ if you're curious.....lol

The stand looks good. The front panels look pretty, but I think when you glue up the boards the grains on each plank should go in opposite direction. Circular grain up and the next board circle grain down. Its to prevent the wood from curling/buckling/pulling apart with the change in humidity. My son's into basic wood working (turning small item/making small things). He's always warning about the wood projects on a popular YT'ers website. She has the grain running in all one direction and glue's up the wood so it can move with the effects of changing humidity. Hope that doesn't happen.

Hi Rick, that's brilliant, you really do like you're woodwork don't you, there will be horsey people making orders for an uncle Rick saddle stand at this rate, Mokie-mokes a good boy helping his dad and learning how to use your cutting machines, be sure to get him some safety goggles won't you, lol talking of safety goggles I haven't got any so I decided that I could put my hands over my eyes, well then I couldn't see what you were doing so I parted my fingers and watched you that way, lol no I didn't, what the heck no body worried about things like that years ago such babies these days no wonder the worlds going the way it is, anyhow hugs again to you and those gorgeous boys xxxxx Ps Do you think that you could build me a granny flat for me and my dogs, hehe x

Quick question, did you specifically choose center cut boards? Does it matter for strength at all?
@Caliekat156 жыл бұрын
Well down here their called center cut I guess in the lumber yard it's called Plain-sawn boards? They tend to want to bow out less the tighter the rings are (fencing work only - no furniture experience at all)
@ThinkLikeAHorse6 жыл бұрын
Hell I don't know, I just went through stacks of wood and picked the ones with least cracks, least bows and least knots.
@Caliekat156 жыл бұрын
@@ThinkLikeAHorse I'm right with you on that one! I have to go through the whole pallet of boards at home Depot to find suitable ones. Let me know if you find any other solutions that don't require hours of sifting through boards to find a few good ones!

@SpiritBear126 жыл бұрын
You are correct about the chamfer though. Some people call it a bull nose, but Mustang Roll works for Rick. LOL
@johnm8406 жыл бұрын
@@SpiritBear12 Actually it's a fillet for round corner and tangent to both sides. described by a Radi callout. The chamfer is a bevel deal, a straight line taking of the corner. Any corner mod is typically called chamfer by default, I do it too. I've used the mustang term in technical dialog and it throws them for a loop. lol. Stole the term from Rick lol, CAD jockey stuff
