I did my first Flat Bow from an round about 8 cm thick ash sapling. it might not be perfect, it might not be powerful (about 28 lb) but i love it cause I made it all by myself with a knive , a drawknive and a file! would like to try to chase growthrings one day but i cant get proper ash trees for that. But if i ever do i come back to watch this :-)

As an experienced bowyer, I love the way this guy reduces a frigging log 5 in in diameter to a thin, elegant trad bow without using several thousand dollars of electric table equipment, unlike some of the "expert" bowyers on yt.

Hey, do you use dead ash wood for bowmaking? Here in Europe you find nearly more deadwood than alive ash. I always go with deadwood, because its already fully dry but still good inside. Otherwise, i would have a guilty conscience ;)
@DreamcraftBows Жыл бұрын
I'm not felling trees by myself, I buy wood as already harvested logs. The ash I had was already suffering from diseases (judging by the latest growthrings). You're right, ash is definetely not doing well here in Europe. Greetings from Poland :)

What is that milky Liquid you use for finish? It looks like diluted wood glue, but i think its smth different. I always finish my bows with danish oil or linseed oil.
@DreamcraftBows Жыл бұрын
It's a water based varnish (Vidaron). I used linseed oil too, have to try danish one! Thank you for the comment.
@sarangunya Жыл бұрын
@@DreamcraftBows danish oil gives a shiny darken look. But it’s a bit sticky if you wipe it off a little bit too late. But I like it the most.

Can you do a video on how to add wood to make a high riser handle on a bow that came from a thin stave
@DreamcraftBows Жыл бұрын
I will make such a one in the future 💪
@georgepats1168 Жыл бұрын
Why did you remove the back wood ?
@DreamcraftBows Жыл бұрын
Growthings on the back were very thin. Such ash growthrings are very brittle. I removed wood from the back to get better quality rings for the bow
@georgepats1168 Жыл бұрын
@@DreamcraftBows ok but I thought the narrower the rings the denser the wood is
