Subscribe for new videos every week. For most of us there is always a constant battle to reduce wasted shop floor space. To me that's one piece of motivation for getting this project done. I've got a 12 gallon shopvac hooked up to a cyclone dust separator and moving them around the shop together is a pain in the butt. That's motivating factor #2. I've also got a bunch of hoses and accessories taking up floor space in a separate box on the shop floor. More motivation.

Sheer genius! I have a small shop and I don't often use my mini cyclone because it is too hard and cumbersome to move around, and usually ends up tipping over. This is a great solution!

Bought your plans and built it over the weekend after my cyclone got here Friday. SO glad you had the plans available. I should have read them 3 or 4 more times before starting construction, but muddled on through to something sorta resembling this build. Thanks Jay! Looks great and works great and much more stable than I thought it would be.

I have a cart close to the blue one you had and I think I am going to attach it to the vac stand and just put something on the front to even it out so I can move it around with the cart. It will work well with cleaning out the car and truck as well as other things.

Really nice especially for improvised construction. I’ve been thinking stacked vertical too. Your hanger struts solved a problem for me. One thought: I’m trying to work out a solid PVC pipe connection between the cyclone and the shop vac. Just to cut down on airflow loss. Probably cleaner with vac up top and cyclone below, but then there’s a potential balance problem. Thanks!

Oh, the third dimension! I never thought about stacking. I've a self build cyclone (still surprised how well it works) and was thinking about building a cart (if I had the time in the last month it would have already built it, I guess). But now I'll go back to the drawing board (or sketchup for that matter). My shop (which is actually a room in the basement) is much more cramped and space is at a premium there.

Love the project, Jay. The only thing I would add would be PVC to connect the vacuum to the cyclone, and more PVC to add hose attachment points at different levels. This would make all your hoses seem longer since they could be connected closer to the level they needs to work.

Amazing Jay. You just never fail to impress. Have you noticed any problems with the vac "lifting" the bigger chips up to the cyclone? I'm wondering if it would be possible to have the cyclone "below" the vac - ? That way only the smallest particles and dust would need to lifted to the second level. I bet it would be way too top heavy that way though. I don't have the industrial vac like yours so I'm just thinking the finer particles would be easier to lift up to that upper level is all. I love how you incorporated the accessories and hoses into the frame. Geniuuuuuus! I've said it before but it bears repeating. THANK YOU JAY for sharing so many of these awesome ideas and modifications that so many of us have benefited from. And the amount of time you spend answering questions and responding to comments does not go unnoticed or unappreciated either. Thank you so much for your time.

Great video. I've seen the RV sewer line at walmart and thought that it would make a good substitute for the shopvac hoses because its super long and cheap. I made a cart a couple of years ago for the shopvac and cyclone at work and haven't been happy with it. It is a side by side and I reused the casters off the shop vac. The whole combo is cumbersome and takes up too much room. Definitely gonna stack the new cart I'm building for my garage shop. Thanks Jay.

Excellent cart. I need to decide whether I want to go vertical like you did to save space or just toss my vac. It's a 4 year old Harbor Freight with a separator on a cart. They sit next to each other and work great. But now I have the Festool and the dust collector so I think I am in dust collector tool overkill :-) But it is just have to toss it. I might just do what you did and keep it to clean up the floor of the shop. Great idea for a cart. Thanks.
