What a great glimpse into the process and crafting of this jewelry! Loved the video, I found it because I’m trying to make jewelry from all the found objects I’ve collected (shells, rocks etc) but I’ll need to start simpler for now. Thank you for the video, something for me to aspire to.

I ❤️ abalone! That's so pretty! I started making my very first bezels for a couple ruby zoisite cabochons (for 2 pendants). I got as far as soldering the wall to the back plate before having to leave it to go out of town. I was so proud of myself for doing such a great job on my very first try until I saw this video and realized I FORGOT to solder a jump ring/bail to the back plate like most people do.😱 LOL! 😄 I'll design and add a cute bail of some sort and it will be fine. Probably better this way for now since I'm NOT proficient with the jeweler's saw yet (I used scissors to trim it - LOL!). Anyway, as always, you do excellent work and your abalone pendant is beautiful with the gallery wire bezel. ❤️ Thanks for sharing! 🙂

That's how did you like to faster style of this video?
@jimbettridge31235 жыл бұрын
2 things here Randy, yes I liked it most likely because I understand what you are doing, secondly on that note, beginners might want to have narration to understand what you are doing, using, and the process behind it in a slower mode. Future comments will dictate that. Footnote on fastening rolling mill, go with lag screws or just drill holes and bolt it in, all at your hardware store!

Awesome time lapse video, although I get more out of them when your narrate. I’m very intrigued by how you solder everything at once. When I try to solder more than one thing at a time, my elements tend to move around when the flux gets to that “watery” stage. How do you avoid that? Beautiful abalone cab! 💜
@GomeowCreations5 жыл бұрын
It might be the flux that your are using. I used handyflux and I heat the metal very slowly and things just don't move once the flux dries out.
@tamaraadams93175 жыл бұрын
GomeowCreations, I also use handy flux. My bezel or whatever I’m soldering seems to move around before invariably settling in the wrong spot. I’m in awe of your skills, Randy. 😊

@wendyannh5 жыл бұрын
Kathy Bradbury There are several different blackeners used by jewelers. The most common (and least toxic) is liver of sulfur, which is available in several different formulations. You can actually do some really cool patina things with LoS, too.
@GomeowCreations5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, you can use LOS too. I'm not the biggest fan of it due to the small and having to use it with hot water but it does work.If you want a cool looking blue green look you can use ammonia, salt and time too 😁👍
@wendyannh5 жыл бұрын
GomeowCreations That’s a cool idea! I like the range of colors you can get with LOS, including the reds and yellows, for some projects. Personally, I’d rather deal with the smell (rotten eggs, for those who don’t know) and the hot water than something more toxic. Obviously others feel differently - and I would imagine that’s why there are so many options! To each his or her own, eh? 😉😊😉

@sfbluestar5 жыл бұрын
@@GomeowCreations 2:08 you can see part of it is blackened. if you sand it or file it, I am sure you can't get to all the little nooks and crannies... Hence my question. Great job, by the way. I have new appreciation for jewelers.

Beautiful piece and great video! I like the sped-up format when showing processes that take a good while and/or are repetitive. If the goal is to teach, however, it’s not as good as clear, concise explanations as you go. A mix of the two can be quite useful at times. I’m curious why you soldered the jump ring onto the backplate. It seems like a lot of additional, unnecessary work to have to pierce it.
@GomeowCreations5 жыл бұрын
Well thank you and this was more or less a test to see if people liked this style of video. I still plan on doing voice over videos. As for soldering the jump ring to the backplate just how I make my work. It's just my style I guess haha
