Thanks so much for your super informative videos. Your great a teaching, and I really appreciate that you explain “why” you do or do not do certain things. That really helps me retain the information. It helps the process make sense. I do have a quick question, what is the mesh screen you soldered on made of? And/or where can I find one? I did check the video info as you’re always so great about listing the tools you used. However, the screen wasn’t listed. I like that it’s so much thicker than the type that typically come on the soldering tripods.

Great video. Just got the hammer piece for my flex shaft. Can’t wait to try this. I have a question. I have been trying to solder a 1 1/2” piece of sheet silver 22 gauge to a slightly larger piece of 22 gauge sheet of copper. Sweat soldered the solder to the back of the silver piece fluxed both pieces and placed it on top of the copper piece. I have tried to solder this 3 times. I only have hand held torches. One small and one a little larger I can not get the solder to flow. Any suggestions or maybe you could do a video on this type of thing. Thank you so much. Your videos are awesome
@aethon6335
@aethon6335 4 жыл бұрын
Try binding wire and double fist your 2 torches. My guess is you are not getting enough heat. You might also check out this : www.amazon.com/Bernzomatic-TS8000-Intensity-Trigger-Start/dp/B0019CQL60 with one of these : www.homedepot.com/p/Bernzomatic-WH0159-Universal-Torch-Extension-Hose-361542/202539579 . You will want to turn the fuel way down because this will be too hot for what you're doing, but it will serve you well if you ever do more heavy duty torch work. Good luck.

Hey Randy. You should try using fine silver and fuse the bezel closed and fuse it to the back plate. No solder to cut, no flux, no pickle needed, and then you can start at the top with hard solder on any other parts. It's a huge time saver. Also your hammer handpiece points will leave a much better finish if you round off those 90 degree corners and polish the face. Thanks for sharing
@ghosttownmetalworks
@ghosttownmetalworks 4 жыл бұрын
I am going to try that! Awesome suggestion. Fusing has always intimidated me...but it's time to give it a whirl!
@aethon6335
@aethon6335 4 жыл бұрын
@@ghosttownmetalworks Also if you ruin a piece of fused fine silver, it can go right into the melt dish next time you pour some sheet or wire and since there was no solder, it's still .999 fine. I have stopped using copper to make test pieces. Fine silver is just so much easier.
@helenhill9482

Worth noting that if you choose to make your bezel any taller, there will be a bigger gap to close when setting the stone, and it may be too difficult to close it all the way, plus it will not look as aesthetically pleasing as the height you made it, so going taller is not a great option. Also, turquoise (especially with matrix) is not good in an ultrasonic machine. It can damage the stone.

The tape is genius! Then as a student, I am not accidentally scratching my stone measuring the bezel wire. Looks like you used painter's tape?
@GomeowCreations
@GomeowCreations 3 жыл бұрын
Yes it is just some painters tape, it sticks good and comes off easy without leaving any adhesive behind.
@LeTrashPanda
@LeTrashPanda 3 жыл бұрын
@@GomeowCreations If you use that same tape over the bezel (before using the reciprocating hammer) you won't get the damage afterwards....it saves a step & preserves the bezel (something drilled into us @ GIA LOL). Beautiful piece, the end result is very cool.
