Great video! This is now on my list of tools to build.

First time viewer of your vids, at 1:20 i realized you built a 2 x72 ALL WOOD grinder, I stopped the vid and subscribed. and yes, you should make a vid of the grinder, if not how you built it, just show lots of dimensions and lots of angles, most of us can figure out the rest.

Thanks man! I made that thing one Saturday afternoon.. afterwards I realized I should have made a video. I could post some pictures with measurements. Thanks for watching!

How does that blade cut wood ? It defies logic --cannot understand how it can cut when screwed down level ---used Stanley type --spokeshaves 55 years --but this DIY is impossible --tried it --does not cut jack sh**----anyhow nice video !

No dimensions given --do we guess the angle of that cutaway you made in the wood ?

do you have a vid on how to make the 2x72 belt grinder?

Blue Salamander No I'm sorry, only on making a large grinding wheel for it. Thanks for watching!

Do those circular saw blades actually take the heat treat? I always assumed they were just mild steel.
@RobinCoomans4 жыл бұрын
Depends, apparantly some saw blades won't work for this. But all the blades i have used hardened up nicely! I would suggest to try it with a small piece before you make something out of it. Thanks for watching!

Why not show that essential clearance gap between the bevel blade and the body --to allow shavings to pass through efficiently ---this is NEVER shown at all !

How do you drill holes in. hi -carbon saw blade steel? Did you anneal it ?---???
@RobinCoomans5 ай бұрын
@@CarlWinter-oy8uf yes anneal it and HT afterwards 👍

Please scrounge up two lag screws and bolt that vise to your table - or at least screw the vise into a piece of plywood and use two C clamps to secure it to the table. Then, find two pieces of scrap wood and make wood jaw inserts.

it is the swivel that is the problem.

I saw you harden the blade but did you not temper it back? I put mine in the oven at 400⁰ for an hour. Its keeping an edge well and still shaves after a full day of use. I'm afraid without tempering you're blade may break or chip.
@KipdoesStuff2 жыл бұрын
people seem to think this thing gets abused, lol. it will be fin, just need to sharpen it more often.
@Jped2772 жыл бұрын
Seems like if u hardened it but didn't temper it, it would probably hold an edge longer... provided it doesn't chip
@Dbaxter2612 жыл бұрын
Saw blades are already heat treated not sure why you would need to re do it in the first place ?
@Jped2772 жыл бұрын
@@Dbaxter261 grinding the blade caused the steel to loose it's temper and become more brittle than I liked. I kinda just like to over do things to learn the process

Excellent work. I ask you a question: if I use a scissor blade to prune trees, is it necessary to temper it? Greetings from Argentina
@RobinCoomans6 жыл бұрын
If you are carefull you wont need to temper. Just keep it cool when grinding, if you see discoloration (brown/blue) then you need to grind past that spot or heat treat the piece! Good luck!!

I want to like it but your spoke shave has a fundamental flaw with no space at the back for shavings to pass through it will clog up fairly fast and this is easily avoidable.

Чего за хрень сделал? Как она работает и для чего она? Если это вариант струга который в принципе и не нужен, то покажи МЕДЛЕННО как эта хрень работает а видео как ты делаешь эту хреновину не надо показывать это не интересно.
