I know everyone is all about Autumn now, but it's 90 degrees where I live and summer dresses are still very much appropriate! Ecspecially cute ones covered in animals.
Things mentioned:
Circle Skirt Tutorial: • How to Make a Circle S...
The fabric is from Jo-anns, and is part of the Doodles apparel collection. But it doesn't seem to be listed online yet, so I can't link to it. I used two and a quarter yards of it for this project.
I mentioned that I would change some things if I made this dress again. Those changes include making the straps an inch or two shorter so the neckline is higher, and mounting the waist ties further back rather than in the side seam, since they cause bunching at the top of the seam which isn't very flattering!

The dress is so cute! It looks like a dress Snow White would wear on her off days to remind her of woodland creature friends. 😊

So glad you made a video for this dress. I fell in love with this print when you showed it on Instagram! And I know it's a summer dress, but I would definitely wear it into the fall, with leggings/tights and a cardigan.

I love this so much because it can really be altered to make a lot of different dresses. Being 5'11" makes it so hard to find anything that covers my bum.

I totally feel you on the the length of most dresses being too short. I am 5'11 and have resorted to making my own skirts and dresses purely because its such a hassle finding a dress that I can successfully bend over in with out showing the world what color my underwear is that particular day.

Wonderful dress and charming fabric. Thank you for your lovely videos. Another method for binding the neckline and armholes is to place right sides of bodice and binding together and stitch in place. Then fold the binding over and hand stitch on the back side of the bodice, using the machine stitch line as a guide to keep the hand stitches from showing on the front side.

That is such a cute dress! I'd love to start sewing my own clothes, especially dresses without zippers. I'm a larger curvy sized gal and I have trouble finding clothes that fit me, even in the larger sizes. So making my own would be the best way to go. I'm glad I found your channel.

I love your tutorials. My daughter wants to learn to sew. She is sewing by hand now because she isn't comfortable with her machine. I find your tutorials helpful as a teaching tool for her. When you talk about things like "French seams", could you give a brief description as to why you are using it and how it helps? I recently repaired a dress of hers that had them. I wasn't very familiar with them. Thank you again for doing these videos. You are so talented.

Bias tape doesn't have to be cut on the bias for stretch fabric because of the weave there is technically no bias as the maximum stretch is parallel to the weft
@charlismith4838
@charlismith4838 8 жыл бұрын
also knits don't fray
@RandomlyTaylord
@RandomlyTaylord 8 жыл бұрын
she's technically not wrong in the fact that fabrics cut on the diagonal to the vertical and horizontal threads/lines in the case of this knit where it wraps better around curves. putting a straight band along the bottom of a curved hem made of a knit fabric won't sit as nice as a band cut on the bias.

Okay, So I've been a silent fan of your videos since the fairy dress (and I've decided today that gosh darn it I'm gonna make my own version of that one because thats the greatest looking thing I've seen in my entire life and I'm ready to branch out with my sewing) but I was wondering if you've ever tried making something similar to the Green Evening Gown from Atonement. I immediately thought that if anyone could make something remarkable - it would be you. It might be something to look into if you're bored. Theres a massive history and loads of analyses done on the dress so even if you don't decide to recreate it- the literature on it is super interesting. anyway- thanks for your videos. They improve my day.

Do you have a serger? you are so talented you ought to treat yourself! I used to think I didn't need one. And would see knits with a regular machine on zigzag or another stretch stitch. Eventually I broke down and got a combination serger/cover lock machine and it is so quick for seeing with knits and I can also hemThem with a true coverstitch. Your stuff always looks great! Thanks for sharing!
@AngelaClaytonCostumery

I do but I never learned how to use it! I was always worried it would cause me to slack off on the finish of things (serging instead of french seams and to avoid lining costumes). I know they are great for knits, but I use them so rarely that I can't be bothered. I think this is my first time using a knit fabric in 10 months, and it'll probably be another year before I use one again!
