Love the track. And wow you sure do have a steady hand. I have added the copper tape to my plastic track do to conductivity problems. It sure does make the job harder when the track is set on the table and you have to do the taping on your knees..

Hi, I'm building basically the same track as you, I just have a few questions, how many spots did you power tap ? I was thinking of doing just two right before each straight away. My track is 18'x8' Thanks Sean

I only did 1 drop.

I have 15 or 20ft of Carrera 1/24 straight track. I am planning on building some wooden curves. I'm gonna use recessed "solid core" wire for connection instead of the copper foil tape. Seems the tape could be easily destroyed. Should work ok, right?
@TheSlotSpot2 жыл бұрын
Yeah anything conductive will work I went with the tape so I didn’t need to router any additional slots. My track is almost 2 years old now and no issues with the tape.

@@TheSlotSpot I believe I have a roll of 1/8" copper tape here from working with LED lights. I have about a dozen 20 year old, (but still new )Carrera 1/24 cars and 15 or 16ft of straight track and I don't have a dog to "fetch" my car if I build a drag strip. lol I just want to build something I can play around with a couple of these cars. I ran across your channel and got "inspired". lol

Hey!... For next summer... what about a 180 degree bank? Any ideas on how to do it?
@TheSlotSpot3 жыл бұрын
Yeah it’s pretty simple if your just doing a 180. You gotta cut your blank into a u shape and not have the middle in the corner like I do. You don’t want a true 180 to start You want like 160ish and then you pull the ends in to 180 and with a ratchet strap. As you pull it in it will naturally bank. You can practice this with cardboard the less angle you start with the harder it will be to bank and will be a steeper bank.

Hi, one more question, did you solder the cooper tape together under the track, or just use a screw to hold them.... ? Thanks Sean

Lotta progress! What is the difference in cost between braid and tape? Also, I am doing my track the same, but I haven't decided if I want to biscuit joint my straits to the corners or not. Nicer seams if I do, but I am toying with the idea of not and leaving myself opportunity to have shorter strait away lengths to represent different tracks. So I could have the big track, a medium size, and a short track ir whatever is needed. What do you think?

Hey thanks for checking out my videos. As far as braid vrs tape . Tape is way way cheaper I spent 21$ for 3 rolls of tape and have a bunch left for repairs if needed braid would have cost me around 300$ , plus the price of the router bit to rout the gains which was another 60$. I would definitely biscuit the seams even if you don’t glue them together because I had to do some creative shim work to level a couple of my seams . I’m going to be uploading a video of the wiring and track running today .

I've done it both ways (several tape tracks and then a braid track) and highly recommend going with braid, the results are lifetime and overall better connectivity over time. I got all my stuff from Slotcarcorner.com and can't exaggerate how awesome their equipment and instructions/kits were (and no, not related to them in any way). In my experience tape is cool in the short run but doesn't age well, you find yourself using various cleaners and then dealing with breaks/tears/patches. If you do want to go with tape (maybe you're not sure about your final configuration yet), I'd recommend Luf Linkert's accessories (oldslotracer.com).

Where or how did you make the track
@TheSlotSpot4 жыл бұрын
Made it in my driveway over the course of 4 days . Probably about 40 hrs total so far. I have a 3 part series on the channel with some descriptions of how I did it. It’s pretty much 5/8 mdf board routed with copper tape and a 12volt power supply.

No nascar here. This track is meant to emulate an old fairgrounds dirt track. Also these cars are not digital.
