The Cajón, with and without strings, was invented in Perú in the 1700's. In the 1950's the strings were added in Trujillo and Arequipa, although it was considered "cheating" by some of the greatest players (in the sense that it helps you get a sharp tone without applying as much strength).

I watched to the end, mostly to find out what a "cajon" is. "Hmm. Solid sides, thin plywood top and bottom. Ah, a hole. An instrument of some kind? Is it going to be the strangest guitar I've ever seen? Maybe some kind of zither? Hmm. Looks done and it's just a box with a hole in it. Wait, what are those C shaped blocks for? Metal Brushes?? like for a drum? Ah! Yes, a percussion instrument with built in brushes that you sit on! So that's what a "cajon" is!" Too cool, Elyasaf. Nice work, and I learned something along the way.

Excellent job, man!! Slightly unusual method of construction but beautifully unique because of it. I wasn't overly skilled in woodwork when I was at school (over 25 years ago) but the older you get the more appreciative of things you can't do and just have to accept some are born with or develop a skill in life, like we all do and have, and your skill is making a bloody good unique cajon. I could see many percussionists envious of a cajon like that.

Very nice. Great rhythm as well. :-) One tip for you. When you angle the blade of the table saw, please move your fence to the other side, so you do not trap the piece between the blade and the fence. It can come out of there at high speed. It will usually happen as the blade slows down.
